Ballast Filled tires, tubes or not?

/ Filled tires, tubes or not? #52
This is an interesting comment that I don't quite know how to respond too. I probably "really use" my tractor more than most people on this forum. While I don't plow or cultivate most of the spring and summer I steadily use most of the horse power available at the pto. While I do live in a flat area most of my work in summer involves irrigation ditches which are far steeper than most road ditches. Any sort of wheel weights would work against me and I certainly don't need it for traction. If my rear tires had fluid in them it would raise my center of gravity at the angles I work at. Besides now I can use the three point hitch to lift my rear tires off the ground. With fluid that would be more difficult.

How does your three point hitch lift your rear tires off the ground? Mine has NO down pressure.

I wondered the same thing when he posted that

There is no down pressure in the three point but I have a hydraulic top link and hydraulics on the mower that I use and together they can be used to lift the rear of the tractor off of the ground.

And what purpose does that serve ?

I mow grassed head ditched used for irrigation. Sometimes it puts both front tires on the ground so I can move. Sometimes it lets the rear of the tractor slide over so that both rear tires are on both banks of the ditch instead of one being in mid air. It lets me climb over cement checks in the ditch once the front wheels crawl up and over the cement and then when I get the back tires against the check I can lift them over too. It's difficult to explain and no doubt you have difficulties visioning what I'm doing. I should post a movie but no more ditch mowing till next spring.
