These containers (from NAPA Auto Parts) include a "dry storage" place for the spout, complete with its own cap.

Junkman

Now that’s a nice setup. All this writing about 5gal tanks makes me thankful for my 300gal bulk tank. Ya it may be kind of ugly but it works really well and it was given to me for free. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

For warning/danger signs try this place/website, there's plenty of FREE samples and if there isn't a sample that suits your taste then you can build one on the website as well. All free.

If anyone is interested in a pump set up similar to mine, I have a new one that can either be pedestal mounted or put on the top of a tank. It is the "top of the line" model... It is listed as an underground dispenser, but if you remove the pedestal, it will mount directly to a 275 fuel oil tank.... Here is the manufacturers site showing the pump... It is missing the hose and nozzel..... which are standard parts..... PM or e Mail me if interested... noahsarkinc@earthlink.net

O.K. I've looked into this problem and if you want to look up www.harborfreight.com .Go to the search and look up pumps, then click on the gas&electric pumps. scroll down to the 5 gal (RED) petro pump with handle. It's just like a gas pump. All you need to do is build a stand to put it on and keep the jug filled., or get a bigger jug. I think you can just buy the pump and use your own jug if you want.

You boys do have some good idea's here and some pretty unique ideas. On point that should be brought out about big storage systems is the potential for fungus to grow if not used fast enough. Your fuel will go bad after time so beware as it will clog fuel filters in less then 100 hours at the beginning. progressing to less then 50 often before found. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I fill my tank once every year during the summer and have never had fungus or mold grow in it. I also have never had any water problems either. I use home heating oil and I believe that if fungus was that much of a problem, my heating system would shut down. My furnace pump is a two line system and that keeps the fuel moving and being filtered constantly. I think that the fungus problem is over stated.... or at least I have never had it nor any one else that I know. I asked the fuel oil dealer about this once and he just laughed. Said that it doesn't happen any more unless the fuel is really old and has been sitting undisturbed with water in it. I also have a filter on my pump that will filter out any fungus and also doesn't allow water to get past it. If there is moisture in the fuel, it will clog the filter material and the pump will stop pumping. I think that the fungus is more a problem in areas that are extremely humid most of the year, such as Florida and other Southern states.. In these places, there is a biocide that you can add to the fuel that will inhibit the growth of fungus and molds. Water is the big problem because the fungus needs water to grow. If you have a clogged filter and the filter is clogged with a black residue, then that is the dead fungus from the fungus colony in the tank. The best way to prevent fungus is to be diligent in the way that you store your fuel... Prevention is the key word... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Here is a web site that is using fear to promote the sale of their products. It makes for interesting reading and if you can get past the hype, there is some good information. I don't disagree that it can be a problem, but I don't agree that the problem is that wide spread..... web page
