Filling the tank.... over the hood....

Just a thought, my arms get tired to, but I've even used a Kerosun heater transfer pump to fill tanks.

Thanks for the info Bob... and the ideas... I'm gonna start with less full cans I guess... I thought about one of those kerosene pumps... I've had the manual and battery operated ones... it just can't be that easy....

I'm pretty good at overengineering just about anything... I'm now going to have to build myself a filling station on the side of my garage....

I use a huge funnel 5 gallon diesel jugs and have no issues, (I'm also 6'1" so reach isn't an issue even with the L3710). If 40+ pounds of diesel is too much, try 3 gallons in the jug, nobody says you have to fill the jug to the top...

5 gallons is perfect for me, I have a 10 gallon tank and always refill when the needle dips just below 50%.

Bob, that's pretty funny. I can honestly say I don't know how to get TAR out of my clothes Have you tried diesel? Don't get any on your boxer's.

T-Toes. . . it was NOT funny at 9pm on a Sunday night in rural Indiana when you live 6 miles from the nearest small town and the only store open then is a small grocery store.

I've fueled tractors for about 10 years and it was not until a couple months ago that I actually spilled some on me. But it does happen. I've spilled before, but never got any on me. I think I am going to follow the advice of some of the posts and NOT put a full 5 gallons into my fuel cans. Even it is another 9 or 10 years before I spill diesel on my closes again, I do not want to spend another night picking fleas off me because I kicked the dog out of her house.

Momma drowned all the dumb babies when I was small, but that doesn't mean I am smart, it just means I was a little smarter than the really dumb ones!

Bob, Humor and perspective are obviously opposed.

You missed this part in your original writing, from my perspective just keeps getting funnier. I'm sure, years from now when the subject turns to "remember when" you will be laughing too, maybe just not quite as hard as others.

The only containers I have with decent pour spouts are my 2 gallon fuel container and my 1 1/2 gallon "mix" container with its attached chain oil container. I refuel both my Gravely and my generator with the 2 gallon container. I hold my finger over the end of the pour spout after opening the vent on the other corner and get it directly over the fuel tank cap hole before releasing my finger. Don't think spills of gasoline onto generator tanks is a good idea.

I refill the 2 gallon container from my 5 gallon ones, which all have those il-cheapo pull-out plastic spouts.

Been thinking that maybe I'll get myself a diesel tank and put it behind the house and can gravity flow out of it into my Kubota's tank. Thinking of using a diesel-fired furnace to heat hot water and pipe it into my fire place down here. Should be able to get the diesel delivered.

TC -- I fill my L3010 from a five gallon diesel container and have yet to spill a drop. I rest the container on the FEL cross bar, pull the little red plug out of the spout but leave the vent cap in place, tuck the spout into the filler neck as I lay the container down across the bar. Nothing spills and very little fuel actually comes out. Then I take the vent cap off and the fuel gushes. I refuel when the tank is half full, so can completely empty the five gallon container.

Can't tell you about a nozzle or pump; I hoist cans above my hood too...

I will mention what others have hinted at. Go out and get you a yellow diesel can. That way, there's no confusing which red can has gas or diesel in it. It can be REALLY EXPENSIVE if you mix fuels in your tractor... No use taking the risk, just get the right came from the get go.

red=gas
yellow=diesel
blue=kerosene

I have the same setup on my JD.
I have been using a Syphon Hose that works really quick and easy. I never spill but it can overrun so you have to keep an eye on it. It still requires you to set the can on the hood or something higher than the tank. But it beets trying to pour.
