Filling the tank.... over the hood....

Cheap and easy \"funnel\"

I bought a 1-1/2" PVC conduit 45 ell and glued a matching 1-1/2" threaded connector on the non-bell end. The threads fit perfectly inside the neck of my 4330 tank and the bell end of the ell is about 12" above the hood. I just (gently) rest a 5 gal can on the hood and can easily pour right into the bell end with no spillage. Ya hafta be a little careful to not overfill so that fuel fills the homemade "funnel". Total cost - about $4.

you\'re right rdam....

it's just one of those things though...

this was quite the exercise.... I've already got the yellow can... with the anti-drip nozzle.... the Han-D-Pump looks like what I was thinking of.... I've got an area already picked out for my filling station.... it needs some work.. but I think I can make it work. I'll snap some 'before' pics on Thursday...

I found a plastic 55 gal drum (free from an industrial chemical supplier) and put a bung-mount rotary pump on the drum. I have filled up my tank twice in the last month.
Before getting the 55 gal drum, I battled the 5 gallon jugs, always spilling a little or a lot of diesel.
My new set-up is so nice!!! No mess!! No hernias!!
Not a drop spilled so far. I also don't have to drive 13 miles one way to the nearest diesel pump every couple of weeks or so. I can haul my drum into town every few months instead of every few weeks and fill it with tax free offroad fuel.

JLoaf,

How do you pump the fuel out of the 55gal. drum?

I bought a rotary handpump from Northern Tool. There are several models/types available. Mine came with a nozzle, hose, and everything I needed to connect to the standard threads on a 2" dia bung. It cost about $130. They have a similar model for about $90 with hose and nozzle etc.
You can also get a piston type hand pump that actually delivers more fuel per stroke. I got the rotary because I felt it would give better control.

You can also find some good info in the Oil, Fuel, & Lubrication section of this forum.

Hope this helps. I am very happy with my new setup.
