Anyone ever seen, made, or know where I can buy a fill hose to fit 5-gal pails? Changed the hyd. oil and filter and when it came time to refill I got to thinking about this. A large funnel won't fit in the area and I'm sure to spill all over so I went to the parts store. No luck at all. I think most 5-gal pails have the same threads and size. Hmmm, someone must make one.

I would not trust the plastic threads on a 5 gallon pail lid. They are for holding the cap on and sometimes don't even do that. How about a pump that replaces the lid like the kind they make for gear oil. If it pumps gear oil, it should pump hyd oil.

I just went through this in December when I changed my hyd. oil, and I forgot that the 5 gallon container wasn't going in the available space until I was ready to put the oil in. Seems like I poured it in a smaller container and from that container into the tractor via a funnel. I remember thinking I wished I'd bought smaller containers in the first place and also wishing I'd bought a good funnel. Years ago, they used to make funnels with those flexible, metal segmented tubes that would bend around obstructions. Today, I guess I'd get some clear hose to attach to a funnel, run the hose to the fill port, and get somebody else to either pour or hold the funnel.

I have 3 of these metal spout funnels.
The plastic spouted ones are literally a piece of junk.
Unlike the metal spouts the plastic ones are to flexible and collapse almost as soon as you start pouring into the funnel and dumps everything you're trying to pour right out on the ground.

I used a funnel with a plastic tube attached to it. They're the ones for putting oil into automatic transmissions.

You could also get a hand pump from Brookstone. One of those pumps that go on electric drills might work, too. Get some tygon tubing to connect.

And remember when you pour out of 5gal buckets, the spout should be at the top (closest to you) and not at the bottom....

I use the pump levers also. I have one for hydro fluid and one for 80W90 Gear Oil. I added hose to each one, about 6 feet. Just get the kid to pump and you fill. When you are done hold the hose up and the fluid runs back in the pail. If its cold it will take a while so you may have to clamp up the end of the hose and come back tomorrow.

I like a siphon.

Yeah they work good for anyone that has the knack of being able to get a 2 foot long rope to stand on end.:D
Since I don't have that talent the thing just collapses on me and dumps everything in the funnel down on top of the motor.

A big metal funnel with a flexible end was my next thought too. Didn't want to spend that much, but I would have a good funnel when done. Must have been quite a while since I bought one cause I think their almost nonexistant anymore. All I could find was plastic, flimsy, and high priced for the quality.

I pour my new 5 gallon buckets into a CLEAN, gallon and a half Chlorox bottle and I also use a transmission funnel and I would rather pick up a gallon and a half than a 5 gallon
and it's not that bad and most of all
