Filter everyother oil change?

( Me, I have better things to do with my time than getting my oil tested (this may not apply to a commercial/farming application) and pondering whether to change my filter or not. )

You and me both. Commercial boys put more hours on their equipment in a week than I put on mine in a year. Like you, I change oil and filter once a year. I could probably go two years on the filter but .. crikies ... it is only 6 bucks and I am working on the thing so why not? I know deep down I would get just as much benefit and perhaps a bit more comfort if I spent that money on a sixer of beer, but I still do it.

I must add sometime small here. Testing oil take a whopping 120 seconds and there is much more value then just seeing if you should change your oil.

If you are using the oil test just to see if I should change my oil, you are not using this application to the fullest.

Sparkkky- I have to agree with MikePA. Ask Kubota if you want an answer. But on the flip side be prepared for a "cookie cutter" response as with most CS reps (if they even give you a so-called answer).

Most all my tractors have anywhere from 8 to as much as 16 quarts of oil in the crankcase. When you look at the grand total of that oil, the cost of a filter is chicken feed. I'd rather have the comfort in knowing that the filter a-is as new as the oil passing through it. MAXIMUM 100 hours on oil AND filters on my tractors.....

From the JD4310 owners manual:

Every 200 Hours
· Change engine oil and filter.
· Check battery electrolyte.
· All Models: Change transmission oil filter.
· All Models: Change suction side filter.
· Check transmission oil level.
.
.
.

It is interesting to note that the recommended interval in JD CUT's is 200 hours. I'll probably stick with doing it every other Spring which will put my interval at ~160 hours. Can't see much of a reason for doing it more frequently.

To me, changing the oil and the filter at the same time is like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. You must use both together at the same time in order to compliment each other to their fullest potential /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

Did both oil and filter, to set in my ways to change now! What about the HST fluid, does it ever look dirty?

Changing the oil and not the filter is like taking a shower and putting on dirty under wear. When you price engines verses an oil filter seems like cheap insurance
