Fire! fire!

Been clearing some land where I want to put the new house. I dug a 7' deep hole, probably 10'by10' wide for the burning.

Just thought of share some pics. Had it going really good til the fire dept showed up. They weren't too upset. Said it was a cell phone hero who called. My neighbors are ok with it. Anyway I just need to not get so greedy and keep the flames down. Always keep the wind right

I burnt an 8x10 shed once that surrounded by acres of green grass, still had cars stopping out front to gawk. No cell phones back then.

A burn permit will save your FD a trip. Hint, Hint.

Reminds me the day I got my bran spanking new kubota and was pushing brush into a good size pile burning. Well she stalled with the bucket and two front tires in the fire, I has seconds to decide - try to restart, or jump off the back. I went for the restart, and she started and I sped out of there. One hour old tractor with melted front grill, lights and charred fenders.

Cell phone hero! That's funny.

Last fall I had a nice sized fire going, about 1/4 mile of over grown fence row worth, it was around 10 at night and we had about 20 or 30 people over. It was all fun and games until some "cell phone hero" called 911 and two brush trucks were sent to "investigate".

They were nice guys, said when someone called they had to check the situation and seemed happy to have a reason to get out and ride around in their big red trucks.

Not sure about your locale, but where I'm at they simply ask that you call the county Sheriff's office and notify them. That stops the "cell phone heros" in their tracks. We don't need a permit (as long as there isn't a burn ban, and in most cases during a ban, you can't burn at all.) Our ban expired (drought conditions here) on Friday so I called and burned on Sunday. Had a huge pile ready to go!

They were real nice guys. Told me it was easy for a permit. I just got greedy and let the flames get too big. All the young guys were telling me how cool it was how I dug a hole. All agreed it was safe. But since someone called its a public nuisance and it must be put out. They watered it down and went on their way. After I instructed them to hit it and not let off or that would get stuck on my hill. Very sloppy and wet.

A fire with logs that is 7 feet deep and 3 feet or so above will not give up easy. Bout the time they got back to their station it was rolling again! Awesome.

I was loading it with The forks on my 4310. Had them steaming when pulling back. I can only imagine a stall. Whew

Volunteer department? Usually they're pretty tolerant-- within reason of course.
Once this fire got going it was still burning the next morning. We always call the County 911 to let them know we're burning to avoid any false alarms.

Yes. Volunteer. But I am in a heavily traveled area. Farmland close to the city. Need a permit. I just don't agree that I need a permit.

Permits aren't necessary where I live and I've had many burn piles over the years (large and small), but never called 911 or had anyone call the fire department (false alarm). In the future I may start calling them when I have large burn piles, just in case. My small burn piles are little more than large camp fires so I doubt that reporting them would be necessary.
