No Frostbite, just gout or something.

I was in Anchorage February 1984 on business. Rented a car. Driving in city traffic when everybody stopped moving for no apparent reason. Sat still for maybe 2 minutes. Longer than a traffic light. Then started moving again. Got down the street a couple blocks and there was a Bull Moose standing on the sidewalk. Guess he must have crossed the street leisurely!!!!

Last time I was in Anchorage was about 18 years ago, what amazed me was the lack of traffic. There was a bit of traffic for about 30 minutes in the morning and again around 5:00 pm, the rest of the time it was jaywalk city! Compared to the cities and towns around western Washington it was a huge contrast! I was there for a conference for a week in late April then drove down to Homer and spent a week with friends who lived there fishing and hanging out.

I've never visited... but my understanding it was quite common where they lived... people were hosting or invited for cocktails... starting around 11 am... the other past time was the early bird menu offerings.

When it comes to retirement I think of three components... health, finances and the psychological aspect...

Maybe the ideal mix is elusive... we all know those with grand plans, years in the making and then health issues stop them cold.

Finances are another issue that can put a damper on things... most things just cost more over time.

The Psychological aspect can be very complex and more so if you are married... witnessed more than a few rough starts in retirement because spouses disagree... or worse... can't stand to be around each other that much.

Honest truth... for several of my friends having a barn/shop saved their marriage... and their spouses agree!

Doofy, if it's gout get some black cherry juice a drink about 4 oz. each day to cure and control it. It's the only thing that works for me! I get relief in less than a day. I make my own each summer.

I hope to find out about the whole retirement life in a year. I turn 62 in October and wife turns 63 the next February. She needs the extra year for better benefits (SSI).
We are planning on selling here and moving to our Georgia property. <7 acres but a lot of places to be away from it all and each other during the days. Planning a garden which will need a lot of supplements to the red clay to start. Wild life is present. And good neighbors.

The only people I would ever suggest continue working is those whose life is their job and retirement would be sitting in the recliner watching TV. They should work until they die.

Yeah, we had a lot of guys like that at the University. They were deathly afraid of retirement. Fortunately, the Ontario government trashed mandatory retirement, and now these folks never have to retire!

Nine years ago my shop burned. Lost everything in it including pickup, two tractors, two ATVs, two Jeeps, all accessories. When the fire was about over my wife and I were standing in the driveway staring at it. She said "Wish it had been the house". That my friends is a "Keeper" in a wife.

You bet! I keep plenty of cherry juice on hand + canned tart cherries. Sure makes a difference in the duration of a flair-up.
