First day of the rest of my life

   / First day of the rest of my life #111
I hope to find out about the whole retirement life in a year. I turn 62 in October and wife turns 63 the next February. She needs the extra year for better benefits (SSI).
We are planning on selling here and moving to our Georgia property. <7 acres but a lot of places to be away from it all and each other during the days. Planning a garden which will need a lot of supplements to the red clay to start. Wild life is present. And good neighbors.

Good neighbors are a blessing so cultivate new relationships. Don't become a hermit.

Be careful Doofy. I get flare ups now and them. Go to one of those all you can eat buffets - eat too much shrimp - ouch!!! Family doctor said all those years of eating only wild game (moose) didn't help one little bit. Wild game has a lot of uric acid - I guess.

Nine years ago my shop burned. Lost everything in it including pickup, two tractors, two ATVs, two Jeeps, all accessories. When the fire was about over my wife and I were standing in the driveway staring at it. She said "Wish it had been the house". That my friends is a "Keeper" in a wife.

She is definitely a "Keeper". The right woman is worth more than gold. We should treat them much better than we do. I sure appreciate mine but still do dumb-headed guy things.

Our wives must be "sisters from another mother."

I don't even have to ask her if something had to burn down, what would you choose? I know the answer would be the house.

I hope your insurance treated you well.

Different topic;

I am finding myself thinking about what needs to be done before Friday night. (my normal first shift back) After a moment, I find myself smiling ear to ear knowing I ain't going back!!:D

I do need to go into work at some point and transfer all my pictures to a thumb drive or something. Most of the time I took my camera to work and put them on my work PC. I don't care about much else out there, but I want my pictures.

As I was reading some of the posts; it reminded me of a guy I worked with. He had about 40 years in at the refinery, could have retired any time he wanted. He had a heart attack while sleeping and died. He was a real nice guy and always willing to help out. He did smoke most of his adult life up to about the last 5 years then he quit.

Hahahaha, never thought the wild game would cause flares. To much Liver & Onions do me in every time. Prices of seafood have gotten Stupid so I don't indulge to often. 2 salmon a year is my limit...ate to many growing up, I guess. I am a pig for halibut though.

Better get your pics quick. When I retired (or even when someone leaves employ) my access to work computers was immediately cut off. I stopped in less than a week after retiring to go over a few things I had forgot to show my replacement and found I was locked out already and couldn't log into the building management system. Had to let the new guy log in so I could show him.
Fortunately I had saved personal files on a CD or emailed them to my home email. beforehand.

Thanks for the heads up;

I am actually on vacation until April 6th (official last day) so I assume everything is the same. But who knows. I know the IT guy real well so it should not be a problem anyway.

Now THAT'S how to do it! None of the usual "ugh it's the last day of vacation and I have to go back to work tomorrow". You get to say "It's the last day of vacation and I get to RETIRE tomorrow" :thumbsup:

Any work related activity for your last day?

Lunch on the company or a Lifetime discount on gasoline?

For my 30 years, they threw a nice prime rib dinner and gave me an engraved gold pan(no gold). Beat me out of 2500 hours of sick leave but at that point I was ready to go. :cool2:
