I thought he was saying that JD is made by Great Bend.

I found some specs on the JD 49 hoe the Bradco will dig deeper with more force than the 49 and is close on the money.

My current choice would be the Bradco 611 on a 5000 series. Maybe John Miller III would have some thoughts?

Those numbers are getting closer. I would think about the tiller before you go that route, as most tillers are made for compact tractors, not the high HP, MFWD tractors like the 5420. I am sure that some of them have the specifications, but I rarely see one in use, and there has to be a reason for it (perhaps just cost??). Most people around here just use a disc in place of a tiller. You can drag around a fairly heavy disc with the 5420, so I think that you can get pretty good results without having to go with the tiller. I can already hear the tiller owners getting in line to tell me that I a wrong on this one, and they are probably right, it just seems to me that if they really were better for this class of tractor, why do I see hundreds of discs being used around here (TX), and if I see a tiller ever, it is somewhat of a surprise.

BWa,

When you consider the different backhoe brands figure out how hard/easy its going to be to put them on and take them off the tractor. I have a JD48 and its real easy to put on and take off. Especially if I use the
stabilizers. I think I can get it done in 15 minutes max at this point. If the JD49 uses the same mounting
systems as the JD48 I think its hard to beat. No subframe is required. And not bolt/wrench turning.

The Power Beyond Kit is used to hook up the hydralics between the tractor and back hoe. I also use it to hook up my hydralic toplink.

Good Luck...

Another brand of tiller that can handle the hp is Howard Rotovator.
Very popular in Europe.

You can pull a 4-16 plow with a 5320 and something like a 12' heavy disk and some kind of finish leveler and find it all used but not abused for under $2000. Considering, you would only work up less than 20ac a year and the plow/disk take up a lot more room than a rototiller a rototiller is better decision. Also work in a package deal for extra blades, maybe 20 lefts and 20 rights with a couple dozen nuts and bolts.

I have not sat down yet to talk buy at the choosen dealer , just looking at first bid /quotes , I cann't move on this until after the first of the year and have told all dealers this up front .... the killer on this is they all think this will be financed deal ........nope soorry . have a once in the life time cash deal ......hope it is like a car dealer they kind of rethink the numbers but learning quick that the dealers have there own set of rules they sell by , but thanks for the idea of asking for extra blades , was also figure'n on a wagon kit ,it can be had for around $775.00 you build the bed ....

I wonder if a cash deal is a bad deal for the dealer? I thought that the car dealers got a small percentage of the financing if they could get you to use to company's ie finance co. i.e GMAC or Ford Motor Credit. Check to see which way you can get a better deal and if the "note" is a better deal do it, and make one big payment on it. Definitely less paper work on a cash deal tho.

Just a warning to you Steve is that on the sales tax issue if you can't prove that you are a business and the IRS or state deems it a hobby the penalties are very severe. There are very strict guidelines that you have to go by to be considered a business or a farm. They audited the local John Deere dealer and several people had to pay back fees, interest, etc. that was about three to four times the amount of the original sales tax because they were considered hobby farmers and not actually a business. If you don't at least file a tax return and have a tax ID number then don't try it. Both the dealer and the individuals had to pay.

This is one of the reasons I will never do business with the local Kubota dealer. (Note To Lurkers: This is not a condemnation of all Kubota dealers nor a condemnation of Kubota tractors, particularly the BX /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif) He asked me how I was going to use the tractor and I mentioned we had horses. When we got down to talking prices, he gave me a total. I responded, "So, it's this price plus tax, correct?" His response, "You said you had horses, right? Sounds like a farm to me."
