First Marriage in your 60’s?

Several of my older friends surprised me remarrying after becoming a widow.

They all said the same… been married too long to be single…

They all married within 10 years of their age and often also a widow…

One of my friends said retirement communities have 3 or 4 single women for every single man…

I already have a deal. If I ever become single again, plan B goes into effect. We've known each other longer than I've known my wife.

I wish it was that simple.

Fortunately, we had enough sense as teenagers and then young adults to not make any babies we could not support. Then, after we got married and wanted kids, we found out we were both borderline sterile. All that precaution for nothing!!!

We both had physical issues that made it difficult to get pregnant. She had severe endometriosis and cysts that blocked her tubes, and I have Varicocele (look it up). Surgeries and lots of ice (use your imagination after you look it up) took care of it.

Like I said... we really wanted children. We did not want to go in vitro, as we believe life begins at conception, and what do you do with multiple fertilized eggs if you have that belief? (not knocking anyone that went with in vitro, it just wasn't on our cafeteria tray of life choices we've made).

So our choices were limited to natural or adoption.

My wife and I are both 60. Started having kids at age 25. 8 healthy kids later God decided she had enough at age 42.

But if I became a widower, no way in hell would I try my luck with another woman who is most likely damaged goods.

Once respect is gone the marriage is on the rocks or so it seems to me.

My wife's side of the family has lots of age gaps. Her dad remarried to a girl 22 years younger. The new wife's daughter, like her mom, married a guy 20 years older. Her cousin married a guy 20 years older (they divorced). Her aunt married a guy 10 years younger. I think there's one more I'm forgetting.

My dad was 42 when I was born, but I was his 5th child. My mom was 8 years younger than him as well.

His dad was 8 years older than his mom, too.

My mom is 21 years younger than my step father. He is still kicking it at 100 years old. They have been married for 43 years now. They had my brother when dad was 56. OOPS! Or was it? My dad raised 3 sons that were not his by blood, and then finally had his own son at 56.
