I sent an email to Rad and suggested how I thought it could be improved. I don't know if I will hear back from them or not, but if I do I will post the result.

You probably wont hear a word from them. I've often purchased products and after making some very cool mods to improve on the product I've shared the info with the manufacture and I've yet to hear a word back.
That being said I decided to fabricate my PTO guard today. We're shut down for the holidays and I've been off now for three days and getting a little stur crazy so I snuck out to the shop.

I used 1/8th plate for the most part but used 1/4 flat bar for the hinge. Most of the work was done with the Edwards ironworker. I did machine a stainless knob and pin for the project. Here's how it went.

Nice work and a nice shop full of tools to work with! What is the pupose of the stanless knob and pin? Is it to hold the shield up when changing a sheer bolt?

Thank you sir. I just post the photo's of the tooling to show how I arrived at the product when completed. Your right. All that the machined stainless pin does is hold the guard up when I need the guard to stay up and the knob was added just because I had some stainless left and made the knob for a bit of extra fun :) It also prevents me from sticking my fingers under the guard to lift it up :(

Merry Chrismas to you all! I had some time to kill, so I searched to see what 4shorts is up to... Makes me feel bad that I still haven't installed my chains... but then, a 1/4" of snow isn't hard to handle. Still, could happen! Have you in the North had serious snow yet?

Hello varmint. Keeping and eye on me are ya  Man I'm not even sure if it's winter let along Christmas. We got as green a lawn as we had all summer long. All we're getting is high winds, rain and truck loads of fog. It's supposed to be above freezing and well above it for the next 5 days . Have a great Christmas as well.

Ya, Paul... I had to stay home over Christmas to take care of a cat with diabetes (he's a good boy, a big cat, very friendly, so we take good care of him!) while my wife drove up to NYC for the big Christmas gathering, so I have plenty of time to kill. I will worry about her until she gets home, since they are forecasting about a foot of snow up there! The girl who was going to give him his shots called at the last minute to say she'd wrecked her car and couldn't do it after all.
I enjoyed seeing the "story" of how you got your tractor- I hadn't notice that thread before. No green grass around here, but then, we don't have the Gulf Stream to bathe us in all that warm water.

Oh man that's to bad about the cat. I don't know why but I never thought about an animal getting diabetes before. I guess if your not exposed to it you don't think about it. It do go to show the kind of person you are to care enough to stay back with the cat. Good stuff and I tip my lid to you for doing so.

Hope your wife made it back ok. I was just out by the door washing the car. Its mild and still no snow. This was an old thread someone brought back but I was real close to getting a Kioti. Real close not that there is anything wrong with them but im pleased with the tractor I ended up with. I just happened to add the PTO guard I built the other day on here so I wouldn't have to start a new thread. I know. I am getting lazy.
You take care my friend.

Paul: This Christmas is turning out to be one to remember! The cats and I have had a quiet time, but my poor wife was in the middle of blizzard- Brooklyn, NY were she was got 2' of snow Sunday! The mayor is going to take a beating over the poor plowing response. She had parked near the end of a side street (not plowed when she dug the Subaru out at noon today, and cleared a path thru the ridge of snow at the main street) and fled the city. She's still driving as I write this- her and a million others who all finally got out today!
I'm almost glad I could stay away from all that. Still cold down here, but I put a coat of graphite paint on my rear blade today, so let 'er come!

I've seen on the news about all the snow down there and the people trying to get back home. It's just terrible. Up here in Newfoundland today it was 60 degrees and sunny for most of the day. This morning I took the GoldWing out for a little ride then came back and waxed the beast. My poor tractor was sure jealous too :). Hope your wife gets home safely my friend

Thanks, Paul. While you wax your bike, I should be washing the salt off my car! The wife got home after 8 hours fighting traffic (thousands of trapped travellers all made a break for home yesterday, it seems) for what is normally a 3 1/2 hour trip. We are due for a break later this week- 50 degrees and rain. I will get a second coat of graphite on the blade, and sit back and wait. Sooner or later, we'll all get some winter! Hope your tractor payments aren't dependent on plowing revenue!

Great to hear your wife made it back safely. I bet that was a rough drive home. How are you applying the graphite? As for the tractor. It's not relying on snow to pay for itself. The business looked after that. This is my last year for snow clearing comerically. I'm just tired of it after twenty years doing it. My driveway is over 600' so it will only be used for that after this winter. The tractor
Is on it's third winter and only has 138 hours on it so it should last a few more years :).
