Remember to get the mounts also for the loader.

Yeah the mounts were included with the loader. After looking at the used 4320 today I found out it was a power reverser and not a hydro. Thats not a deal breaker for me but I know my wife would hate me if I decided to buy it and expected her to run it from time to time. So after a few test drives the salesman told me that if I wanted a 4120 that it would be the first or second week of October until I would be able to get one the way I wanted it. After walking around the lot for a while I played around on a new 3520. It is a 2012 model with less than an hour on it and can get that one for $21,500, put a brand new loader on it and still be less money than a new 4120 with nothing else included with it. So here's my current thoughts, I can buy the 3520 now, have a tractor that my wife will run and not be intimidated by, It will be a little bit more convenient for the trails in the woods and planting small food plots, and then buy a bigger farm tractor down the road. I know I just did a complete 180 from my original plan, but what are everybody's thoughts? Do you think that's a bad idea?

It's hard for any of us to get inside your head - or your DW for that matter - and see what is really important to both of you. The nice thing about JD, at least for me, is that if you take care of it, come time to sell you should not lose your shirt. Yes, the next tractor will likely be more expensive due to inflation, but one also has to apply some value to the benefit of using the unit prior to the sale.

I know that now everybody thinks they need a 300hp Quad, but I also know my Dad / Grandfather farmed 250 acres with two horses and a Ford 9N. They would have just loved a 3520.

Haha you don't want inside my head! I realize if I upgrade down the road that I'm not going to take a huge loss on the 3520 if I were to get rid of it at that time. But like you said about the price going up because of inflation it's also going to make a huge jump pretty soon with all the new emissions, the dealer is thinking somewhere around $4,000 or so. It would be nice to take them both home for a week or two that would really help make somebody's mind up. If only money weren't an option I wouldn't be in this predicament right now.

Here's another thought. It is not clear, at least to me, what you actually want to do with this tractor, or put another way what do you expect the tractor to do? Try making a list of "must do" then "nice to do" maybe even "not needed now / and or ever" For example, within reason the 3x20 will do many of the same things as a 4x20, maybe some even better, but there are others it will not do. On either series you can have the FEL with Buckets / Pallet Forks / Grapples / Snow Blowers / Blades etc. One question with all these implements is "how fast" or "how much weight?" If lifting Round Bales will ever be a "must do" the 3x20 won't.

Same with PTO type equipment. Either series will run one. Is smaller / slower satisfactory or do you have to have bigger / faster? Same with ground engaging jobs and / a Back Hoe. Another factor is the larger the tractor, chances are the bigger / faster implements will cost more as well.

In my case, I wanted certain minimum lift capabilities with the FEL and digging depth with the Back Hoe. These requirements ruled out the 2305 & 2x20 series, but for that I had to compromise on the lawn mower aspect of the 3x20. If you come up with one or more "must have" capabilities and that also fits within the budget, then you will have picked the series and model best for you.

Will they let you demo them?

I have had situations where I wanted "something" bad enough I settled versus getting what I really wanted. As I have gotten older I have learned to be more patient and stick with my plan versus settling.

You have received some very good advice. In my situation, I do not believe I would be satisfied with a smaller framed tractor. I personally would like to have a 4000 series cab unit, but am not convinced I would be satisfied in comparison to the 5000 series I have now. Each time I begin to consider if something else would be a better fit for my needs, I arrive at the conclusion that what I have now is exactly what suits my needs best. While a cab sounds nice, the reality for me is the need isn't there and it would actually restrict my ability to do some of the things I do now.

My suggestion too would be to take an honest assessment of your needs, determine which tractor is best suited for these needs and let that be your guide.

The 3520 fills my needs list just as well as the 4120 does. I was mainly looking at the 4120 for the stability factor of things, but I think if I widen out the 3520 it will do just fine. The tractor is going to get used for snow removal, yard work, rototilling with a 72" rototiller, discing, FEL work, and brush hogging. It's not that I needed the 4120, it was just a want. But money does come in to play and the 3520 is a heck of a lot cheaper as far as that goes. I have some time to make a decision and talk things over with the wife.

And another thing is the 4120 with FEL and MX6 cutter is probably going to put me right on the edge or overweight on my 7,000 pound trailer I currently have. I really don't want to go buy another trailer at the moment either.
