Tractor
Ford 1700 4wheel drive, Yazoo/Kees Max2 Zero Turn
Hi ya'll. I bought a 1700 4WD a while back with a cracked head. Got a prety good deal as I got the tractor, a Long 1537 tiller, 5 ft Woods mower, and a box blade for $1,200. Now I am working on rebuilding the engine. Parts are going to run just over $1,000 plus the machine work to bore .020 over and work the head. I was shocked at the price for the pistons/rings @ $245 each. I'll let you know how everything comes out.

Welcome to TBN blue Russell. We have much info about all aspect of 1700 minus good partial engine overhaul info. If you can take pics and share. it should be a doable project. Could not go wrong with the the price even with the pricey piston/rings combo, good thing you got to buy two cylinder.

Welcome Russel. If this is your first tractor, $1,000 for repair might seem like alot. But when you find all the different things you can do with it, you will find it is money well spent. There is plenty of info here on the 1700. If you have any questions , just ask.

Yes this is my first tractor.:) I will gladly post pictures. Is there any thing in particular that you want to see? My parts are due in tomorrow on UPS. Once I check everything out I have to take the block and head to the machine shop. I priced the parts at local dealers and online. I ended up buying from partspring.com in Washington state. The parts were a good 20% cheaper than my local New Holland dealer along with free shipping to my door and no sales tax.

I've got a 1700 also, it's kind of a 2nd or back up machine to my modern JD, I've found a few tasks for it and it seems to handle them well. I've been pulling a 6' rear blade this winter in snow and ice and I'm impressed with the power and gearing. Even with just 2 wheel drive, I put some v-bar chains on and am totally confident as it has not gotten stuck yet. Like a little dozer, have only used the dif lock a few times

I do really like this tractor, I would love it if it had 4 wheel drive.

Good luck, let us know when you get it up and running, or like JC said keep us informed while your doing it, I'd like to see what it looks like in there.
