My new toy was delivered yesterday evening. It was a rainy day, so i didn't really get a chance to play (much). My first project that I had planned was the removal of some tree stumps along the back part of the property, where I am replacing the fence.

First stump, about 10" in diameter: This one was a real pain. I don't know if it was just because I was trying to get a feel for the controls, or if it really was just a tough stump, but it took me over an hour to get it out.

Second stump, a little smaller, but surrounded by huge stumps, that I have no intention of pulling: The smaller stump, about 6" in diameter, was right where I need to put a post. I couldn't even shift the post left or right, because of the huge stumps on either side. This one went a little faster, it took about 30 minutes. Partly because I was beginning to get a feel for the controls, but also because I went and got the ax and saw out for the really big roots. I sort of felt like that was cheating, but hey, it got the job done.

The next couple of stumps also about 6" in diameter were a piece of cake. The came out just like I expected them to. Again, I think it helps that I am beginning to get a feel for making the backhoe work in a fluid motion, rather than moving each lever on direction at a time.

The bucket's biggest test was going up to a pile of gravel, lifting a full bucket's worth, and dumping it back out. It did great for that little test.

Overall, after some initial frustration, and a very steep learning curve with the backhoe, I am very happy with this little SCUT.

Part of the learning curve is learning the limitation of the machine. It is NOT a Case 580K. But it will take out stumps a heck of a lot faster than you can by hand. You just have to be patient and work "smart".. cutting roots with something is not cheating. That is just working "smart". Also working when the ground is damp can help with getting out stumps. As you practice more, you will learn more.

The more you run it the better feel you will have I forgot to tell you congrats. but you probably have caught the fever it's not cureable only controlled by purchasing equipment from time to time. are you going to Moultrie for ag expo.

Sounds like a winner! When I got my 2620 with a bh I spent sometime getting to understand the controls. I still only keep the rpms at a level that gets the job gone. I remember a friend saying keep it graceful and under control. Takes a bit longer but keeps the equipment out of the shop.

This is the first I have heard of it. It looks like fun, and not too far away. I will see if I can get away!

Yeah, that is what I told myself. I could probably BUILD a cabinet with nothing but a tablesaw, but I wouldn't. That is why I have a garage full of other tools. Likewise the outdoor tools!

Congratulations! Had a BX25. My most favorite Kubota SCUT. The BH operation requires some coordination combined with some learning (working experience). Stumps are often difficult but usually will come out.
I saw a man trying to get a stump out (12" stump) while doing a Church work day and he was using a Ford tractor with just a FEL and rotary mower. I was doing other projects. I had my B2620 FEL BH and finally went over to help him. I ended up digging all around it and he would push around the edge. It never budged. I guess I dug down over 4' and with him pushing and me pulling and both of us pushing it never moved. I finally gave up. Found out later that it was a tree that had been covered up several feet deep then the top cut off with a foot or two sticking up. We hadn't even gotten down to the roots.:shocked::laughing:
Anyway, as I said before, experience helps more than about anything with a BH.
