Thanks for sharing and taking the time to post the photos.

I'm always amazed at how much I learn by reading these posts and the common sense that is expressed that I don't seem to have.

There's been some great advice given, thats for sure!!!!!!!!!

Before you turn the engine over with the glow plugs out, figure out how the fuel stop solenoid is wired. Is it normally closed and it takes power to open and run. You don't want to be injecting fuel as you are trying to get stray oil out. I believe that Kubota engines are indirect injection like my GMC diesel pickup so that there is a small auxillary chamber where the injectors and glow plug are. If you get a large amount of spray out, you might want to bring each piston to the top and suction out what oil you can.

I don't know if your tractor has a compression release, but, if so, After getting upright, I would engage it and try turning engine over with a breaker bar and socket. In either case, I would try the breaker bar and socket. That should blow any oil out the valves or squeeze it past rings depending on what stroke a cylinder is on. No need to remove injectors or glowplugs, unless it won't turn over with the breaker bar.

This may be a dumb thought, but personally I would be a little bit leery of turning a diesel over by hand with a breaker bar without venting the cylinders if I thought there was oil in them. Not for fear of breaking connecting rods, but for fear of it firing. A diesel will run on engine oil and if the rings are sealing well enough to hold compression when turning over slowly I wonder if you could actually generate enough compression heat to start the engine? (this would be a Bad Thing while you are hanging on to the breaker bar ...)

As I said, probably a dumb thought, but if you have the option of removing glow plugs or injectors, why take the chance?

Same darned thing almost happened to me a few weeks ago. I was subsoiling and picked up a half bucket of dirt on a slight side slope. Bucket was waist high as I backed up with it. Then the right rear tire rolled up over a large rock and she started to go. I poked the front go pedal and dropped the bucket and she settled down.

I'll NEVER pick up a load in the bucket without the proper ballast on the rear...EVER!

Would there not have to some sort of ignition for this to happen. Asking, not commenting. I would think if the battery cable was taken off (which should be anyway) that there would be no chance of that, and not having the ignition on might be enough to not let this happen.

If it were my tractor and under some kind of warranty, it would be in the dealer shop. Insurance may even take care of the repairs if you were on your own property. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Diesels don't have spark for ignition, they use high compression. I would think the risk of it starting from hand cranking is small, but a risk none the less.

You have probably got it upright by now. This happened to Dad's Satoh Buck years ago while mowing a ditchbank. Upside down and noboby hurt except the tractor. TBN was not around back then so nobody pulled the injectors or glow plugs. Yep bent a rod. Dad fussed pretty hard at the guy who turned it over. Said he told him not to mow there. A few years later Dad turned it over in the same place. He was pinned under it with an electric barbed wire fence giving intermitant jabs. A passing motorcyclist saw his fingertips sticking up in the air and helped him get the tractor off. This time they were a little smarter and took out the injectors. When they spun it over with the starter it shot oil up on the side of the house. The Buck is mine now, still running strong but has some battle scars.

Just curious, was the engine still able to run on its side? Or did you kill it? Or did it die on its own from an air bubble? Or what??? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I had actually shut it down before the tractor was fully on it's side. Too many movies I guess, but as I was turning over I could see myself going up in a big ball of flame! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
Reached for the key with one hand and held on tight to the steering wheel with the other. Funny the goofy stuff that pops into your brain in a moment of stress. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
