I have a really hard time buying new, knowing the depreciation that occurs on anything the second it rolls off the lot. I committed to the used BX2660 mentioned before. I think it's a fair price and I can reasonably call it an "investment" lol. I think depending on how this goes, o could possibly see myself eventually trading it in on a bigger, hopefully again super low hours unit.

I could be wrong but I didn't think tractor values dropped off that much compared to cars.

A BX is a pretty small tractor. You sure it will do the job?

So thanks again everyone who had some helpful input. I'm looking at my second tractor now, and after doing quite a bit of research I think this is a much better route. I decided to just bite the bullet and double my budget and look for some low hour sub compacts. I'm looking at an extremely clean, 50 hour Kubota Bx2660 with a loader and 60 inch belly mower for $11,000. How does that price seem? From my research it seems very reasonable, especially within 200 miles or so of me. And does anyone have experience with this machine? How does it perform on some smaller homestead jobs? Moving snow? My yard gets kind of soft, is this going to be too heavy for consistent yard mowing without tearing it up? It does not have turf tires. Anything else helpful anyone would like to chime in? Thank you.

OK, that's a much nicer machine, but kind of small. With 8 acres and your intended projects I think you would be happier with a compact or utility size tractor. I think you should leave the sub-compacts to someone else who is doing more mancuring projects than what you describe.
Something in the 25 to 35 hp range would do the jobs for you, but really with that much ground I'd look 30 hp and over with regular size tractor tires. If you don't like the aggressive Ag tread there are turf tires (which require chains in the winter) or a nice compromise are the R4 industrial tires. Get 4wd of course, power steering, and a loader. The 3point hitch should be complete and fully functional. I am so glad you didn't go for the ancient Kioti. It looks like a project all in itself. If it is a project tractor that you want and you want or need to save money that way there are better ways to begin.

When looking at used tractors you won't go wrong by putting a lot of emphasis on the condition of the tractor: How have little things been addressed? How is the maintenance? Records? Shop and owners manuals? Stored indoors or at least under a cover? Pride of ownership is what I think you want to be looking for.

You know, a few years back I had just the machine you are looking for. A mid-80s vintage Yanmar 336D with ps, loader, 12 speed power shift, 4wd, and a blade on back. Turf tires. 33 hp, about 800 hours.... and never had any required any repairs in spite of working it hard. All records and manuals. I had bought it from a rental company about 1992 for 12K. At our place it lived under a tarp, not a shed.
We sold it 5 years ago for 5K, and probably should have asked 10K or even more - I've a feeling the buyer would have paid the higher price as easily as the lower.

I'm telling you this just to let you know that there are similar deals out there. You don't need to be looking at junk or at machines that don't fit your projects. You just need to get educated on the market.

I feel that Kubota would be a better buy

They sure don't.. And investments make money so if has wheels it's more of a needed item than an investment..

For some reason I never got any of the replies on this thread. The BX ended up falling through, but I ended up buying a Massey Ferguson GC2300 with a loader, rake and back blade. So far I am really enjoying it and it has accomplished every task I've had for it in the first week of ownership. I had my septic replaced upon moving into the new house so I had to haul some dirt and smooth the front yard. It's now ready for grass seed. I've groomed the driveway that had inches of compressed leaves accumulated over it from years of neglect, it's now looking great and even brought some old gravel back up to the surface, which packed down nicely. It has moved logs from the woods and cleared some nice paths. Helped greatly rebuilding our chicken coop and many other things. So far having a little tractor has been awesome, I'm sure eventually I will want to upgrade. As far as an "investment" goes, for the time and money I'll save doing my own tasks, I can view it as a money maker. I've already done my yard which I was quoted over $2000 to dom if I sold for what I payed for right now, it would be money in my pocket as far as I'm concerned. Thank you all so much for your helpful insights, I know a SCUT isnt much, but it's pretty awesome so far.IMG_20190424_213530_306.jpegSnapchat-140300799.jpeg1556494685950.jpeg
