...TBN is ranked as the 9,855th most popular site on the web...there are presently more than 28 million total web sites, so that puts TractorByNet in the top .035% of web sites. ...

So Muhammad... how are you going to top this act...? /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

Does this mean...maybe... you're making some money.../w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

For being our fearless TBN owner & leader... I think you should buy one of each color tractor... can't show any bias now... /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif

Thanks & Congrats on some great numbers... Don't keep this a secret anymore... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Aside from Muhammad's dedication and expertise, some other factors are at play here. Baby boomers along with many of their parents (the largest segment of the US population) have moved from protesting corporate America to enjoying it in the form of nice paychecks, pensions and products. Some of these products include the new generation of compact tractors, along with boats, planes, autos, motorcycles etc...

I would not have thought of spending time chatting about tractors on a web site twenty years ago (had one been available), so times have changed the priorities of a huge segment of our population.

I have to admit, I now spend more time on this site than any other. It is attractive and easy to use. I like the layout and advertising links. Muhammad has done a fine job with it/w3tcompact/icons/clever.gif and quite honestly, I am jelous because I didn't think of it!

I had asked about this before… under “Message Posted in the Past XX Hours”, could you make the columns (Subject, Forum, Poster, Posted on) sortable?

It would be easier to check this page, sort on Subject{sub-date/time) and proceed through the posts easier, also being able to read the “posts up-to-date” and then making a response based on “everything said” versus repeating something already suggested or discussed…etc.

Muhammad...

Is it too late to add a forum under "Other Forums"...

Computers & Software

to keep it consolidated under one "roof"... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Muhammad...

Since I whacked at your "survey"... I felt I had to give equal time to something I thought you did a real sharp job on- in the "new and improved" version of TBN...

On the Home page of TBN, you have a new section called HOT DISCUSSION TOPICS... now that is slick... how does the algorithm work for picking the listed threads... or is it set to be random... my bookmarks are set for the "Discussions page" so I rarely get to the "Home page"...

Old habits are hard to change... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Nice work Muhammad.../w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

{p.s. are you going to NY Farm Show next week?}

Well we can basically pull any threads we want to display as the "hot topics" ... right now the settings of the script are:

- Threads with the latest post no older than 1 day
- Pick the threads with the most views
- Show top 15 results

As it's setup now, we can adjust those three variables... sort by views or replies, change the number of days old, etc. I tweaked it a few times and found that the above settings worked best. Ultimately, we might add more features but the main goal was to have it update automatically and real time so they wouldn't get stale sitting on the home page.

are you going to NY Farm Show next week?

Yes. I plan to go on either Thursday or Friday, assuming there are no issues with the weather. I'm curious if Kubota will have a display, as they're not on the exhibitor list... while all the other majors are.

Muhammad...

What's the chances of posting a TBN "tip of the hour" near the top of the screen, right underneath the ad banner... this could be a rotating queue of tips that would be little reminders of getting the most out of TBN during a user's visit...

Such messages (like little 2 or 3 liners) could give a "search tip", "faq tip", "under what forum... do I post my question tip", "do's & don'ts of in-line advertising", "how do I use the classified", "diluting the forums with double/triple posts saying/asking the same thing", "etiquette of TBN use", etc.

Muhammad, Just made sure Bird, John Miller 3, or some of the long winded guys don't help you. You will surely run out of room in 3 lines. Sorry guys just fooling around. You guys are great!!!!

I think the second criteria should be that it has the most posts within some time period (last 3 days, last day, etc.). I guess for the newbies/first time visitors, it(the current list/criteria) draws them in, so that increases the view count, but not the contribution (and therefore its continuing value to regular readers). For a long-time (but admittedly interesting) post like Mark's improvements to EF-5, I think it has lost some of its timeliness for the regulars, even though many click-thrus are hitting it on the home page and increasing the hit count.
