Flat face hydraulic connectors are better?

I'm not sure the glad hand style would hold up against hydraulic pressure. The air brake system only has about 135 psi in it.

I know, that’s why I mentioned the word “similar”. There is a loader company that manufactures high end loaders with a unique connector where all the lines are attached effortlessly with one quick connection. One can dream...

No dreaming needed, they make them and are available on some tractor loaders as a option. A bit pricey though.

I have issues with my FF connectors under pressure too. In fact, I wrecked the seal on the female side trying to hook up my grapple after extracting it from the snow last week - now I'm not finding anywhere who advertises that o-ring for the 16028 couplers so I might have to go to a specialty shop and hope to get lucky. It oozes oil, so this is not a delayable repair.

I've been meaning to make a tool to connect the couplers with a square threaded clamp, because I'm tired of using my ad-hoc ratchet strap work-around. I relieve the pressure from the tractor side religiously whenever connecting or disconnecting (which is a PITA in of itself), but thermal conditions seem to always rear up on the implement end and make things annoying.

That said, I wouldn't want to go to the Ag style on my FEL. There's just way too much crap that ends up all over those fittings when I'm using a bucket or pushing through the brush without an attachment present (like mowing).

I have a friend who always has issues with his Bobcat's FF connectors holding pressure, even though the cat has a pressure relief switch. He made up a tool to fit over them and he pulls with the tool's lever and they go together pretty well. I'll have to take a picture and share it some time, it's simple and effective.

If you want to stick with Flush Face couplers, you could consider putting the connect-under-pressure type at least on the tractor. It doesn't completely solve the residual pressure coupling issues, but it helps. I use FF on my FEL 3rd function (1 pair on machine), ag style on rear remotes (2 pair on machine), Series B on backhoe and log splitter (1 pair) , and 10,000 PSI screw-on type on snowcat (8 pair on machine).

They all have advantages and disadvantages, the SERIES B are easiest to use. The 10,000 PSI are hard to clean and have an internal o-ring that eventually wears out, but they do connect under pressure. FF easiest to clean.

I didn’t know they exist. Nice to know!!!

Cleaning the ag style is simple, just use a can of starting fluid , a quick shot of starting fluid cleans them right out and cuts any grease and grime , dries in seconds.

Because everyone always has a can of that handy. I can clean the skid steer couplers with my hand although a rag is ideal.
