I have the LA 272 loader on my
B7510. The operator's Manual makes reference to a 3 position valve and a 4 position valve and I have the 4 position valve. If you look at the lower end of the valve (the end opposite the valve handle) there are 2 hex shaped devices. If 1 is short and the other long it is a 3 position valve. If the are both long (the same lengths, about 2 1/2") you have a 4 position valve.
Now that I read the instructions it is NOT the same thing as a "float".
From the Operator's Manual (manual applies to LA272, LA302, LA352, LA402 loaders), page 18:
-----------------------------------------------------------
4 position bucket control valve type
This control valve has two stage dump positions. The rirst "regenerative" dump position activated by moving the lever to the right features high speed for efficient normal loader operations.
The second "Regular" dump position activated by moving the lever further to the right features increased power. This second position should be used when operating implements other than the loader with this control valve. These two positions are separated by a "Feel" position for your convenience.
-----------------------------------------------------------
I just discovered this position yesterday and only tried it once or twice to dump the bucket since I thought that was what it was for. According to the above instructions that is not what it is for.
From what I read (and copied above) it appears that this position would be used for something other than a FEL and may give a greater flow if that is what they mean by "increased power".
I did not notice when I tried it yesterday whether it stayed in that position like the "float" does or not. Since I expected it to just dump I didn't really notice anything other than the bucket tilted down and I did not have anything in it.
Now that I think about it that would be dangerous anyway. If you were dumping in the back of a pickup and accidentally pushed the handle too far you could drop the bucket on the side of the pickup bed. Not good.
Guess I need to do some further research. It is 35 degrees and dark outside so further research effort are postponed for a few days!
How many of you have an extra position on your loader valve that you didn't know about?
Will you feel cheated and trade your Kubota in for a Mahindra tomorrow if you didn't get a 4 position valve?
And what does that extra position really do?
Will your friends with 3 position valves hate you because they are envious of your 4 position valve?
What are "implements other than the loader"?
How long are you going to lay awake tonight wondering about this?
Who among you will go out into the cold dark night tonight to research and report back on this?
Who the heck really cares?
Will this post never end?
