I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on the pros and cons of a floating toplink ( chain , hinge or movable tang ends ) as apposed to the fixed ones . Is strength and manuverability an issue ? Land Pride has a scarifier with a floating toplink and I see it is used with the landscape rake in tow But would you leave it in float while ripping earth ?
?

I use a chain for a top link on my bushhog.

But I only mow flat level ground. I have heard a fixed top link can add stability for steep slopes.

Also more difficult to adjust, and adjustment can be important on some implements.

I use the top link now because I've found that its 2" movement each way gives enough movement to follow my hills and drops when going 100 feet downhill to the creek. At first, I used a chain because I didn't think the top link would have enough movement and could cause the rear wheels to leave the ground if they dropped into a deep trough. No problem. The top link keeps the unit from dropping over the edge of a dropoff.

I've posted on this before ..somewhere ...I have a landpride rear blade that has a hydraulically adjustable tail wheel (single gauge wheel) and, as it is manipulated it "fights" the top link ...which I solved by using the floating top link accessory that HF sells for their quick hitch. See explanatory sketch below, and two pics

As bought, both my bush hog (which has a tail wheel) and my finish mower (which also wants to follow the terrain) both have floating top links.
