Fluid Film

My new 1025 and new Frontier bush hog has been very difficult to get the PTO shaft to slide onto the tractor shaft. Last time, I put the usual bit of white lithium grease onto the PTO shaft, but I also put a little bit of Fluid Film on the inner part of the PTO shaft that goes to the bush hog. It went right on! Wow!

Grease often prevents PTO shaft from coupling to the stub.

As you have discovered, Fluid Film is the right stuff. It is thick enough, but not too thick.

Scrub the splines with a brass or steel brush occasionally, wipe with a paper towel, then re-apply Fluid Film.

WD-40 works OK but Fluid Film is better.

I put it on PTO shaft, all of the joints of the 3pt. the SSQA linkage, and anything else that does not have a grease zerk. The stuff is the closest thing to a Miracle in a can I have seen when it comes to lubricating/protecting things.

NAPA stores have spray Fluid Film at around $9. Stihl stores usually have it around $12.

To my surprise, my local rather small Tractor Supply does NOT carry Fluid Film.

Ah HA! Thanks for posting this wee tip. And to k0ua for the further information.

I'll go and clean off the grease that I'd hoped (usually to no avail) would let the coupling for the tiller or the slasher slide right on without cursing for 15+ minutes! I've got a lanoline based spray to try out... Fluid Film isn't readily available in Tassie.

if you can get it a NAPA for $9, that would be a pretty good price for the full size areosol can. I ordered it from fluid film You can get it on Amazon, also the DR power products folks.

Fluid Film is a Lanolin based product also. I like the Aerosol, as it is thin when it goes on and spreads by itself and then hardens up to about a soft grease like consistency.

Fluid Film...I love fluid film!
I also use it on the PTO stub shaft as well as the drive shaft halves (as Ralph described). I use it both both the gear and range shift levers (where they enter the transmission case) too...and anyone with a Deere 4200,4300, 4400 and newer Deres with thos long levers...use Fluid Film to lubricate those levers!

Those with Kioti's that have that extra linkage on the rear of the tractor for the position control.. I spray some in there also. I use it for the telescoping sway bars, and the telescoping lower draft links too!

Both.. goes on liquid, and then forms a light grease like film. Stays put. and doesn't seem to attract a lot of dirt.

Fluid Film is marketed primarily as a rust preventative, secondarily as a lubricant.

A couple of years ago, Kellsport was on this board, and offered to send a free sample of the Fluid Film. So I "bit" and filled out the online form.. Well it was downhill from there as I was "hooked". as soon as the little can ran out I had to order some big ones. They are pretty smart
