I run 20K miles on each oil change on my Honda Accord with no issues at all. And also change my oil once a year on my 2005 Duramax with both using Amsoil. I am also a Amsoil dealer so if anyone has any questions about our products I can help.

One of my co-workers is running his honda accord to 25,000 miles on Mobil1...

No doubt I could run longer but they don't recommend using the filter for more than 15K so I change it every 10K and then change the oil every second filter change. I believe Mobile1 doesn't recommend going over 10-15K miles. But that is great if they are getting those miles out of it.

Yup ...

I didn't drain and totally change out the oil until that sump had over 51,000 miles on it .... and it was likely still good then (I have a sample from that drain I still haven't gotten around to sending in :confused2:)

Blackstone's report forms make it a little confusing - it's the same oil sump from mile 135,283 to mile 160,259 on the odometer and the makeup oil listed is a total up to that time on the last two UOA's, not cumulative (IOW, 5.25 total quarts over 24,976 miles)

Consulting my maintenance log, I see that the entire sump (around 10.5 quarts) was eventually changed out at 186,657 .... so 186,657 minus 135,283 = 51,371 miles on the sump before changing ....

A Motor Guard M-30, modified by Ralph Woods of Texas .... essentially it's a TP filter (toilet paper - I mostly used Scott 1000 :D) .... similar to a Frantz ....

I usually changed the filter every 3K to 5K miles (roll of TP is less than a buck) and added maybe a 1/4 to 1/2 quart of make up oil.

Right now the bypass filter is off the truck - I got tired of changing the filter so often (I'm lazy and I run a lot of miles) ....

I have a centrifuge (Spinner) filter I haven't gotten around to installing yet .... should require less servicing.

Worthwhile investment if you run a lot of miles or hours IMHO ....
Thanks for the details..I usually try to get about 4 gallons an hour thru the shrader valve for my bypass filters..I have a new Huge p90 amsoil bypass filter now, but it is pretty big for 2.4 toyota 4 cylinder..So I may put another pf35 adapter on it..Dam- good truck, but age is making me want somthing sportier..Not nice to fool with father-time? I totally believe in the bypass system for engines, if it cost a whole lot then the pre-oiler sytem is very good too..We bought them for our Cummins gen-sets..Nice..

Only would I run that far{25K] if i had a bypass filter installed...Even with the Mobil 1 filters..I did not like changing the filter only at the mid-point of service..Everyone wants their engine to last longer..Now I am driving it less so the year time factor comes into play?

Get back to me when they both reach 300k then we will know if there was any damage? Since both these vehicles can easily go that long with 6k mile oil changes on dino oil.

I run synthetic in everything I own.I change every 8000 miles but if I can't get to it before 10,000 It doesn't worry me.Amsoil has a guarantee that if you buy their engine cleaner and then change to their oil with their oil filter, you change the oil filter every 3000 miles and top oil off,Never actually changing the oil,If you ever have a oil related breakdown the will foot the bill in full even if it means a new motor.I shyed away being their products are very high priced

That oil guarantee is about as good as me guaranteeing you will not get ran over by a Pepsi Truck today. I have been around equipment for my entire life and never seen a "oil related failure". Its always a oil pump went out, low on oil, ect. Non of this is oil related, its mechanical failure or stupid operator. It makes the sheep feel better but it really does pay off.

I know of a guy who accidentally put hydraulic oil in his motor after servicing his tractor. Did not catch it for 100 hours till he realized the 5 gallon jug of oil had not been opened and his hydraulic oil 5 gallon jug was down the 8 quarts. Long story short he changed the oil and keep a eye on it and 1000 hours later its still running fine.

Im another thread i have learned that in Europe they have one oil that they put in the trans/hydro as well as engine. Its spected that way! But i think they said a 5 gallon pail of hydro oil is aabout $100.

And i agree on the amsoil stuff.

I have seen an oil related failure once. It was a dodge stratus with a 2.7 L and about 35k miles on it. They never changed the oil on it since new and when we took off the valve covers it was not pretty looking. Black, burn, gummy oil everywhere. This was dino oil.

Well thats neglect. Im pretty sure D.P. was talking about someone who actually makes an effort to maintain thier stuff. If your using amsoil and changing filter every 3k i bet the oil will last basically forever as your pretty much adding a qt every 6k miles.

I would go to say that even if you used a cheap store filter and house brand oil since new i bet you would not have a problem, same as if you used mobil one and changed oil every 10k or whatever.

I have used walmart brand oil for close to 100k (really warren brand) and pretty much fram filters in my ranger. That was pretty much the second half of its life. The last 30k or so has had name brand oil and filters as i catch it on sale at parts places, but still add off brand when burned. It now has 290K on it.
