Hey guys, I'm stumped. Adding a cutting top to a welding table. It hinges so it can be folded down out of the way. Looking for ideas to latch it in the up position. Don't want to use wrenches. What do ya think??? Thanks in advance for any ideas. :)

Two triangles, hinged at the two nearest legs.

Bruce, I had to think about that a bit. You are suggesting swinging the triangles off the table legs. When not in use they swing in against the table, out of the way???

How about a piece of flat bar on each side. That goes from the square tube legs on the table, to the grate, at a 45-degree angle? Could use pins, and hair pin clips to hold the pins in place.

That was my original thought. Then I advanced to hinging the flat bar in the middle with a stopper so if couldn't fall below straight. Then just lift up on the bars to start them hinging and they would end up folded up between the legs and the top???

Very simple. Want it to be able to be strong enough that I could stand on it. Hmmmmmm...... I've got some rod that's probably 1/2" or maybe 5/8". If I trussed the triangle they'd be pretty strong wouldn't they??

On the table legs you could drill and tap thread. Use a bolt to hold the flat bar in place. When not using the burning table the flat bar could hang down out of the way.

My first thought was to pin the cutting grate to the table so it could just be removed rather than folding down. Then got to thinking about keeping track of everything and decided to try to hinge it in place.

Yes, I can see that. I gotta go under the cutting table and add some bracketry since the table outter edge is outside the table legs by about 3" on each side.
