Kioti/jaotguy, Having nothing better to do at the moment, I am just in the mood for stirring it a wee bittie more. Give me some facts about public servants where you can absolutely prove without any doubt that they do not work - and, (of course this is absolutely critical to your arguments) give me an equal number of cases of people in the private sector who "go the extra mile" out of the goodness of their hearts and without expecting, or receiving, any financial benefit. You only win if you have more in the private sector than I can quote from the public sector.

I worked in the public sector for a few years. I did some contracting there too. I met a lot of people who devoted their all to serving their fellow man.

I am speaking of experience in England, Australia, Scotland and Portugal in both sectors. If you want to restrict it to the US of A then I cannot comment further, but remember these are your fellow Americans before you tell the world how useless they are.

There are workers and there are shirkers all over the world.

I'm not going to try and relate my lifelong experiences here in a post. Perhaps I should single out the Oklahoma Tax Commission office in Tulsa for having the single-most rude hateful confrontational white-hating biaaaatch I've ever met. Suffice it to say, I'm 60 next month and have dealt with numerous public employees through the years. I think as most, I quickly learned to not expect much.

Yes - there are good public servants - but they are in severe shortage. Yes - there are shirkers/workers across the board. In private employment, however, the shirkers are generally held accountable.

Retired early eleven years ago.......got out of the rat race....moved to a rural area. Like others.....get to do what I want...when I want. Have done a lot of community service work......lots of woodworking. Walking the woods with my dogs with a cup of coffee every morning is really nice. Use to fly every week.....hope to never get on a plane again. This pretty much reflects how I roll today.....

My wife came home to find me waving a rolled up newspaper round my head.

She said.....'What are you doing dear?'

I said.......'Swatting flies - I got 3 males and 2 females'

She said......'How on earth do you know which gender they were?'

I replied......'Easy - 3 were on the beer, and the other 2 were on the phone'

Life is good!:drink:

what I like about retirement is never having a day off, not weekends not holidays no sick days no vacation days......but then no Am and PM traffic

true words indeed ...

all of my statements were qualified ... for both good and bad ... in both private and public sectors ( worked in both and contracted in both )

and as stated, we seem to see more of them in the public sector over here ...

as an example ... in Hull, Quebec ( years ago and on the news ) the public employees made it a pain in the *ss to get your driver's license( buy a car, get plate stickers , etc ) if you were English speaking ... ran you around in circles and had you fill out forms and stand in the line ups again .... not uncommon to waste 5-6 hours of your life .... then a reporter with hidden cameras and microphones exposed the whole farce to the world ... the next day , all the workers were fired and the department head was given to boot also .... the icing on the cake was when they discovered that 2 legally blind people got their licenses as well as someone's pet dog .... the "director" had no excuse for their behavior ( even though it was proven there were plenty of complaints to him ).... the next Monday, all new faces behind the wickets and a written promise that no one would be in the lineups more than 20 minutes to get their paperwork done... and the tellers would do the running around.

new time was less than 15 minutes from start to finish including standing in line.

now for the private sector ... walked into a Canadian Tire Store one day .. asked for a timing chain and cam sprocket for a V8 Chev engine . the employee came back with a rubber cog belt .. told him he has the wrong part and it's way too long ... he promptly folds it in half and and tells me to double it up to make it fit .... the store owner was walking by at the time and I stopped him and had the clerk repeat the doubling up part ... then I told the owner to look up the right part for me ... he came back with the correct parts ... the clerk wasn't there the next day....

or you want a special lubricant , they say they don't stock it and never heard of it ... so you say , OK then just give me a tube of part number XXXXXXX instead ... when they bring it out, you show them the "special lube " name on the tube ....

yes , we have an entitlement mentality in our younger workers over here .... they see mom and dad hardly working at a public job , with the big house, 2 cars , boats , pool , 4 weeks vacation down south, etc ... then expect to same pay and light workload when they apply for a "job" .....

stirring the pot is good at times ... dumping the whole pot of rancid stew/ soup is necessary at times too... ( I'm referring to 2 multi Billion dollar fiascoes at Ontario E-health , where both the public workers and private contractors failed us miserably... and the Ornge medical helicopters for hospitals in Ontario... million dollar salaries , ( one to the CEO's female secretary/girlfriend whose only credentials was that she knew how to wind surf ) just try that in the private sector and see how far you go before you get sued ...

Walking out onto the ice ...........

In the "real" world - the world of making a profit - a lot of these folks would be shown the door...

I guess I'll fall through the ice. :)

Current event in the past few days, in the "real" world,
BofA - some tens of billions of dollars back to the US government for suspect business practices. Don't see any executives being shown the doors, en masse.
A local man - in my area, embezzled millions from his company. Over many, many years. Did not see any executives falling on their swords for lack of due diligence.
Wall Street - JPMorgan in the news from the Madoff scandal, no suits on the street over that, yet....
My county - Volunteer Fire Program, A Chief, a Deputy, and others, embezzlement of donations

IMHO the general workforce is suspect at any given time. Government or Private, makes little difference to me. It is all about the person.

think you hit it on the head .. comes down to the person ...

now comes the question ... were they taught that way , did they learn it themselves or were they just twisted to begin with ...

but all of this has gotten off topic :) and should be in another thread....

now everyone ... sit back close your eyes and repeat " hmmmm, tractors... hmmm, tractors ... hmmm , tractors "
be at peace with your machine .;)

Of course! Now what is the goal for your bear and deer, this season? Remember, one must have goals in retirement.
