Ford 7.3L Gas Engine

   / Ford 7.3L Gas Engine #121
Dealers were able to order the 20s three weeks ago and I ordered an F250 with the 7.3 and tremor package. Here are three reasons why I went for the 250 7.3 over the 350 and diesel

My current truck is an F350 diesel and I was going to go with the 350 but the tremor package kicks the bumper tow limit down to 15,000 lbs which is the same as the 250. I have more need for the off road capability than towing capacity and 15k is enough for me

The 350 has more payload capacity but my trucks always have a cap so I have no room for the extra 1,250 lbs of stuff and the 250 is over 1k cheaper

Since the towing capacity is the same with the 7.3 gas and the diesel I decided to save the 8 grand and go gas. Diesel also cost more per gallon than gas and the extra MPG doesn't justify the $8,000 premium for the length I keep my vehicles. Another thing I noticed is that the 7.3 engine in the 350 is $1,750 but it's $2,045 in the 250 with no apparent reason why. The diesel costs the same in both
Update this when you get it please, personally not interested in another diesel.

I will look forward to seeing pictures. I have to say the price of new trucks is breath taking to me.

Don't know if this was a factor for you, but my friends who have the Ford diesels complain a lot about like $400 in parts or something for a full oil and filter change, which gives me the willies.

My main tow vehicle is 2004 Excursion with 5.4 gas, does pretty well, but I am not towing any really big stuff, really 10,000 and under. It has 257M miles and runs great. I also have 2002 F150 regular cab, long bed 4.6 and 2008 Ranger supercab 2.3 both with about 80M miles, both run great and allow me to do different tasks efficiently.

I think he was also doing air and fuel filters, not sure what else. The guy who did the work is pretty reasonable. I agree his number seems way high after looking further into it.

I will have to ask him what cost so much.

Thanks for the reply, Bruce

That is real good. Most do not get to 0.5 Million miles. :D

Probably like a friend of mine who drives a Ram half-ton with the 3.0 diesel. He complained that it cost him several hundred dollars to change his oil. Turns out that he let the dealer do it - getting charged for a couple hours labor on top of list price for the filters and oil. So we sat down and figured out he could cut the cost to a third by buying Fleetguard filters and changing the oil himself.
Me, I've been buying all my filters (5.9 Cummins) from Geno's Garage, my oil in 5 gallon buckets, and doing the change myself. Heck of a lot cheaper than letting someone else do it for me and I know its done right and besides, I get under the rig to check everything else to make sure it is shipshape!

I cannot see how this could be the case at a reputable shop unless filters are some ungodly price. ??

I do the same, I buy the cheapest priced filter and factory oil but then I let the dealer do all the work.

For $26.95 I get to sit and have coffee, read the newspaper, and they get the privilege of rotating my tires, filling them up with the proper pressure, checking the entire vehicle, free car wash, disposing of my used oil and filter, getting their hands dirty, and the best part is I can say I NEVER touched the vehicle only the dealer touched it for any warranty problems. No one here can do all that for $26.95.

I don't have to drive to dispose of the used oil. I don't have to worry that all the lug nuts are torqued correctly I have a certified Ford mechanic give the vehicle the once over.

I've been doing this for decades. No quick oil shops for me. I go to the dealer with all my products and let the experts handle everything.

The best part is no cleanup, no mess in my driveway, I don't have to crawl on the ground when it's 120 degrees outside, or when it's too cold out to mess with anything.

I bought the maintenance package for the last few trucks I've owned. It's rolled into the loan and 20% off regular pricing

It covers all recommended maintenance for 125,000 miles
