Re: Ford Pickup = \"Found On Road Dead\"

Break time. So far the exhaust manifold bolts have been removed and all but one of the intake bolts. It started raining and I need a break. The other cylinder head will not be coming off. I managed to get the back bolt out with rust buster and vise grips and drilled and tapped out the front bolt. One thing that I noticed with this motor is that there is no ridge in the cylinder walls. A motor with 90K should show some type of wear and definitely should have a ridge at the top of the cylinder. The cylinder walls still have cross hatch honing on them also. There is also no carbon buildup whatsoever on the pistons, cylinder head or valves. So now I wonder when the motor was changed out. The last owner was the second owner. He claims he never had anything done to the motor. Hhmmmm., makes a person kinda wonder how many miles are on this motor.

I agree that it may have been taken care of. I have plenty of reciepts to show what has been done since the second owner bought the truck. He traded it in because it was nickle and diming him to death. He had all his repairs done at a dealership, Ouch.

Robert, I thought Dodge was: something to avoid, to stay away from. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

On the otherhand, I must be lucky, I've had good luck with them all. Must be a California thing. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Re: Ford Pickup = \"Found On Road Dead\"

i own a dodge, inline 6 cylinder, NO spark plugs to worry about! But, nevertheless, the soon to come bad weather followed by huge amounts of SALT worry me still. good luck with the truck, Jim. Maybe a good time to put a diesel in place of the v8? you could probably pick up a used navistar or cummins for a few thousand... and, biodiesel stations are starting to spout up in eastern MA... -art

Re: Ford Pickup = \"Found On Road Dead\"

i totally forgot to mention. last truck was a ford. very rusty. got so bad that some components just crumbled. the internal wiring, in the steering column was so bad (don't know how or why) that it no longer would start with key... engine still ran strong and seemed okay, but i got tired of fooling around with the truck every week... also, the frame was just a solid rust heap, but a mechanic claimed it was still sound.

Re: Ford Pickup = \"Found On Road Dead\"

Art, I sold my last Ford pickup back in 1990. I still saw it running the roads of central Ma. 2 years ago. It is a 1979 Ford F350 Camper Special. That truck was the reason I bought another Ford. The whole truck was almost near perfect after 11 years of use and over 200K on the speedo. It was also rustproofed when new. I figured that I couldn't go wrong with another Ford if my old one is still travelling the roads after 24 years in New England. I would have kept it if it had been a 4 wheel drive vehicle.
