just about any non live pto / single stage clutch machine will function that way with the mower backfeeding the powertrain unless you have an orc or some sort of clutch mechanism to prevent it..

Yep its made that way. My yanmar is the same way. It was made before they thought of safty stuff and made things simple and reliable with as few parts as possible. You just had to remember if mowing up to a fence or barn you cant cluth and stop, the mower inertia will keep on pushing you foward.

My little yanmar is the same way. get a $40 over run clutch and solve that. It allows the bush hog to free wheel and the clutch "ratchets" like a socket wrench going backwards. There about 9"s long and slip onto the pto then you hook the bushhog drive shaft to it.

im also looking for a sickle bar mower for my 8n i dont have hydrolics on it are the old mowers pto driven? 3pt behind driven?

   / Ford8n Antifreeze #25
your 8n SHOULD have 3pt hyds, and will need it to run a common mounted sickle bar mower. and yes. they are pto driven.

something like a ford 501 sickle mower might be nice. I see them go for 400 or so on the want adds and craigslist often..

id like to change the fan belt also on my 8n how do i do this without dissaembling the hole hood? theirs hardly any room to get the new/old belt over the fan my finger dont even fit in the gap between the fan and the metal it has a front distrubtor

i've yet to ever disassemble anything to change a fan belt unless it had a front stinger pump.

the fan belt with ribs will just slip betweent he fan blade and shrould.. PS.. that shroud is thin metal and can be pushed a bit without bending.. slip em over the blades one at a time.. then put in palce on pullies..
