Does anybody know rotor winding diodes connection. Are they connected on both pole same polarity? Lost my pictures:thumbdown:

Solved.
Diodes are in opposite polarity. One side winding beginning to + the other side is to -.

Frazer1,

Thank you for the reply. I checked the governor lever today and it doesn't move freely at all, with the throttle in the "RUN" or "STOP" position. I have the constant speed setup with only a RUN or STOP position. I am as certain as I can be that the spring is in the correct holes on the levers. I checked it against pictures online of this generator, but the manual showed the larger spring one hole different. When I tested that it performed worse so I put it back.

The engine runs great when the the RPMs finally settle so I think the governor is my problem. I looked through the manual and it seems to be fairly silent on servicing or replacing the governor. I could have missed it though.

Any input on governor replacement, adjustment or repair is welcome. I think I got a pretty good deal on this unit, so I can spend some money on it and still be alright. Looks like I've got some learning to do.

Most likely the injection pump is sticking.
Confirm this by removing the pump then moving the governor lever, it should now move freely.
If this is the case remove the return spring on injection pump and you will be able to move the plunger and turn the rack buy hand.
Disassemble it very carefully you may find rust or varnish on components.
Handle very carefully it is a very precise part.
Use diesel fuel or a solvent such as acetone to clean parts.
Due to very small tolerance's you must be very gentle when inserting the plunger into the injector body to avoid getting it stuck.
Hope this helps.

I have recently acquired a genset with what appears to be a clone of the L100. It starts and runs , but tons of white smoke that smells like diesel not oil burning . It does sputer and run rough at lower rpm's , smoothes out at higher rpm , but more white smoke and sort of back fire (but out the exhaust) like was described earlier and attributed to a worn cam bearing. From what I read here , I assumed unburnt fuel. Injector is spraying fine , and when I pulled the head it was not carboned up at all. It is possible that someone before me cleaned it all up , I have no history on the motor. Don't really want to get into the bottom end and rings etc unless I absolutely have to. Wondering about shims on the fuel pump. Thinking that if someone else was messing with it the shims / timing might be off. Any thoughts , suggestions , or opinions will be welcomed. Thanks , GORD

I can't specifically help but I assume the pump is out of wack somehow.

Maybe someone tried to "turn it up" so it would "roll coal"? Hahaha

Thinking I will pull the valves , re seat them , adujst valve clearances , then check the fuel pump and reassemble the motor to see if any of the work so far helps. Don't really want to have to separate the motor from the generator to get at the bottom end unless nothing else has worked.

Hi Guys

I have one of these Aurora silent diesel 6500W gensets. I bought it 6 years ago and it ran perfectly fine until this winter.
I use it as a backup for a rural house, and whenever I need portable power, all in all, it has only 120 hours on it.

During my last maintenance run, I noticed a mouse nest in the hot box around the exhaust. I opened everything up and cleared up the mouse nest, I checked everything over to make sure no mice are present, changed the oil, and fired it up. I was running very rough, and as it was getting dark, I noticed the exhaust right next to the cylinder start to glow cherry red. I shut it off right away since the fuel tank is right above this part. When it cooled down, I disassembled the exhaust and noticed that the catalyctic converter has come apart blocking the exhaust quite effectively. I gutted the cat, checked the two mufflers for flow, all seemed to be okay.
Due to the intense heat that built up, I looked everything over again. I took the air filter off... there was no air filter, all I found was charred remains of the air filter and all the seals melted. I'm no expert, but it seemed like there were flames shooting out the intake, I don't know if the plugged exhaust would cause this or not.

After cleaning everything up again, and reassembling, this time with no air filter, I fired up the generator and it seemed to work fine, but I can't say I consider it reliable and a big fire hazard if this were to happen again. A few weeks later as I wait for my new air filters to arrive, I try the generator again, and it starts doing the exact same thing. I have to check again for any obstructions in the intake or exhaust.

I see that some of you have had similar problems before. I am reading any material I can find, and this forum has been a great help, not just with this genset, but with many things I enjoy tinkering with.

I don't consider myself a diesel expert at all, but seeing as this generator doesn't see much action, diesel made a lot of sense, and it still does, I just can't find another generator like it anymore. LPG or gasoline seem to be the only ways to go, but our crappy Canadian gasoline will clog everything up if not used without a month.

I'm very handy and not afraid of taking an engine apart, should I be looking for anything specific to correct this issue?
I'm nowhere near the generator, but I hope no one poured gasoline into it like in that youtube video...

Thank you

Ignition timing, injectors, valve clearance, fuel filter is an good start to check out.
Cooling was ok?

Did it start easy? Different sound?

It starts easy as if everything is normal, but almost right away you notice it running rough.
After about a minute or two of running like this, the exhaust starts glowing and everything around it starts melting.
I have a see through fuel filter on it, the original was leaking and had to go, I don't see anything in it, but it is winter, I will look closer when I'm there next.

I contact Aurora, they say the no longer carry this generator, I couldn't even an air filter for it from them.

Thank you for any help. I think I will tear this one down and check everything. I have a suspicion the air filter might have disintegrated and got sucked into the cylinder which caused all the other issues that followed.

I will post my findings although it might not be for a week or two.
