Ok Soundguy I got it now that didn't sound quite like you ;) . So yeah as a tip to new loaders by all means use me as an example I have big shoulders willing to admit when I am or do wrong humble as I can be. :)

James and I have apparently a lot in common in reloading anyway. I can relate so far in everything he has posted right down to hearing a split 45 there is that particular ring  . You just are tuned into it and I never actually look for splits I hear them in my bag or hand then I sort.

How about getting a 9mm in your 38 Super or a 380 in with 9mm or a 40 in a 45 (you mentioned that one) that is the one I will cull at the range because I dont load 40. It will stop your collator at the bottom of the stack and screw with you something terrible straightening that mess out, 40 in with 9mm/38 Super sucks too. Mainly because the other shooters just gather up and throw brass in your bag especially if they are not paying attention to what you shoot and dont cull for you. 9mm is easy to see but 40 a little easier to get by us if we happen to be shooting 45.

Not to start a reloading war or a what not to do (well ok if you want too go ahead) but one time I wanted to load some 45 tracers and planned on shooting them at nite (well why not right) and didn't want to leave any good brass behind that's my story anyway.

Anyway I got the idea to try some blazer aluminum cases (yeah yeah yeah) and run them thru my 550. I was able to poke a hole thru the cases with the Dillon die de-cap pin and load them, there is a dip right there in the center anyway probably the anvil? It actually worked quite well haven't done it since but it did work.

I have seen that done before too.. I haven't done it personally, and probably wouldn't, but It can be done. The guy I saw doing it, said that he never had any problems with using them. I would think you might not want to load them too many times. as I think Aluminum gets "work hardened" pretty bad, and you are likely to have lots of splits and possible web separations. I don't know that for a fact, but it is what I think.

I hand sort by caliber so that is one of the stages it gets inspected. However going through these two buckets of brass I was wondering if a Shell Sorter is worth the $: Welcome to shellsorter.com! Finally a way to sort your brass quickly by caliber! anybody using one?

I recently started messing around with using Stainless Steel media and wet tumbling... sure makes for some pretty brass but is definitely slower than a vibratory tumbler.

No on the shell sorters, I have never seen them, or used them, But I don't see why they would not work,. I have just always sorted them by hand. I have always used corn-cob media with Dillons brass cleaner the rapid polish stuff.

I bought "zilla" brand walnut shell reptile bed media off amazon a few weeks back. IT was like $20 shipped to home and i have like 20lbs of the stuff, its about the size of a fertilizer bag!! Funny thing is like 90% of the review on amazon were for it as a tumble media!!

Now it works! Its finer than normal walnut shells but thats a good thing as it does not get stuck in your primer holes!!! It also is dusty. ( the Nu finish cuts the dust to nothing, see next comment) But if you put some of the "NU finish" car liquid polish for cars in there with it it will get as shiny as new brass. Now i see why amazon recomended it as a thing people often bought with the zilla. There is plenty of youtube vids saying to go to the pet shop to get your tumble media its way cheaper adn i think my brass is better looking than a guy who tumbled some i had and used real tumble walnut shells and some maybe polish.

Here is a pic of some 223 brass that was tumbled in the mix I just described above. Once fired brass some was quite dirty.

Hey thanks for the tip. Ironically I have some of that Nu-finish stuff, but I have never thought of using it for that purpose, I have always used the $8 bottle Dillon stuff.. but hey your brass looks great! I gotta remember the reptile bed media:)
