FRAM Filters...

I buy what ever is on sale and change the oil every 3500 miles. But I have my own lift and getting rid of used oil is free (both dump and Autozone take it for free).

I use about 100 oil filters each and every year for the past 20 plus years. I would say 80% have been Fram. I have never had a single issue.

I would put my paycheck on the fact that well over 50% of the oil filters sold are Fram or manufactured by them "Honeywell".

I wonder how many other brands are made by Fram?

Champion Laboratories Inc.

Fram bought Champ Labs. Logos on the bottom of the main page illustrate some of their latest acquisitions.

Smart that they are acknowledging past production issues.

Like many part sectors, 3 or 4 players (max) control most of the market.

And Champion Labs makes many different brands of oil filters. Could this be the reason for the improved quality at Fram?

No doubt, Fram wanted to grow.

Aside from just "buying business", a big atttraction can be Intellectual Property. A fully operational machine-vision inspection system with several+ years of data on a given type of part is valuable IP. Once a CEO gets his hands on that type of info, it's key data to hand to his incumbent QA department, and makes cost justifying upgrades on older Manuf lines pretty easy.

Like the 4 Minute Mile, once one guy does it....

I am glad an old line like Fram was able to find its way back to being a top tier oil filter company.

I feel the same way. Maybe that is why Walmart stopped carrying them, improved quality!? :)

Gotta admit, I did get a good laugh.... thanks for that ! (Fram is not on the shelf anymore, in Eastern Canada at least. Not sure about US stores).

Fram probably just got tired of the abuse.... I can't imagine that you make much money supplying Walmart, and they have a rep for crushing suppliers, then taking over their businesses, esp. consumer basics.

They are no longer carrying FRAM here in Ontario either, but CDN Tire seems to have added the top level FRAM filters. Will have to investigate pricing at CDN Tire.
