Can a GM dealer refuse to do warranty work on a vehicle not purchased there?

In any case... I don't think it's a good idea to leave a message on a voicemail, stating that you won't do warranty work as an explicit threat to a perspective buyer considering purchasing a car from another dealer.

That would have sealed the deal for me. I would not ever step on their lot again after hearing that. I would have also reported them to GM. I probably wouldn't have thought of posting it on youtube.

Deary me.. "if it's convenient for you to drive over there to buy it it should be convenient for you to drive over there to get it serviced"

... Yup.. I'd go to that trouble to avoid a passive-aggressive muppet like that Mr Kevin Winkler - I wouldn't want to throw him ANY profit.

Steady on gents....

He may also be a seriously desperate guy trying his damndest to sell a car to break even that month.. And it appears to be a family firm; doubt he'd loose his job.

I'm sure this'll bite them a little though ;)

This is nothing new; I've experienced this attitude at other dealers too. I believe that in times past the warranty work done by the dealer was reimbursed by the company at a very modest rate, so the dealer didn't make much if anything...or so I'm told. It's not surprising that they didn't want to do work that wasn't profitable when they didn't make the big bucks on the sale. I don't know if this is the case today, but it wouldn't surprise me.

This kind of arrogance could lead to bankruptcy...

Assuming the call is true, GM should say to Mr. Winkler "if it's convenient for you to not provide service to our customers, it it should be convenient for you to sell a different brand"

GM recently announced 2011 was their most profitable year ever w/ $7.6 Billion net income...

I sure hope Kubota stands behind their brand if I ever have to go to a different dealer to get some service.

BTW, the service dept is what helps dealers through hard times, and they don't just do warranty work.
