Fair enough. So have you tried to source a better made gear set?

No I have not redesigned and manufactured gears for Branson, for this I apologise.

I have let tech support, parts, our numerous sales reps over the years and Mr.Yung himself know about them. Same answer for years, it's always "we're working on it" or surprise(even though I've told them 3 or 4 times).

I wondered where you have been with all your useful answers....

Anyways, it's called Sintering. It's another process to make all kinds of stuff. Lots of gears are made this way and yes, even on the famous brands.

The finish could indeed be better.

Here an article explaining the process:

Sintering in the Powder Metallurgy Process
Sintered or sand casted gears are no where near as strong as machined gears made from proper hardenable blanks!. the gears used were a cost cutting measure which backfired!.. machining is required to make a perfect fit!..

Go and tell that to the owner of Kubota, JD or any tractor manufacturer out there. :)

Seriously, they ALREADY know that!.. but they make money$$ selling parts, so, it won't fly!!..

I damaged my front gear set on a Mitsubishi.
Gear set was of a high quality but bolts that attached the ring gear got lose, fell off and damaged the set.
The bolt set simply loosened possibly due to a rather flimsy locking tab design.
All 8 bolts were found well mashed in the sump.
When I rebuilt the differential I used lock tight plus safety wired the bolts in pairs.
That was 7 yrs ago so it's holding up OK.
That was a fairly pricy repair with parts quoted from $400-$1300, (quite a price spread for the exact same parts).
Talk about taking advantage of a situation.

What a vicious thread this has turned out to be. I haven't heard of a lot of these gears going out on any tractor. Sounds like people are making a mountain out of a mole hill. Some idealists seem to think that keeping cost of making machinery under control should never be a consideration when a better, but unnecessary method of manufacturer is available. These same people will ***** about the high cost of machinery.

I just shake my head and walk away , You can't win with some people , You can break anything you want sometimes it's just a bad operator ...... I see stuff all the time with the dump trucks broken axles , drive shafts ripped out , I watched I guy with the body up all the way tailgate locked closed , Try to shake the load off He backed up hit the brakes front end went up in the air 3 feet hit then hit the ground then he did it 2 more times , So if the front springs break its the manufacturers fault...... So if your tractors is in 4wd and the front tires are bouncing off the ground you will break something.........

I thought we were just having a friendly conversation about an issue that may or may not exist. Who knows, maybe we will find a solution that saves the world from these inferior products. ;)

Safety wire?
Did the heads already have drilled safety wire holes?
