I have a gc 1710. There was some plugs on the front end loader I replaces with some hooks ( see photos). What has everyone put there? I put some removal eye hooks that are often used for trailers I got a rural king. They unscrew when not in use. Anyone see a problem with these? I have yet to use them.

Good idea, hopefully they won't distort the rear wall of the bucket when used to lift something heavy, that's a lot of stress concentrated in a small area.

I can see why people weld on the 2inch receiver, but what do y'all do with your hooks? I have pallet forks for lifting.
I like the idea of hooks, just not sure what I could use them for.

Just curious . . if you had a hook at each upper corner of the bucket a person could weld a small support block to the underside of the top edge and to the side wall to give added strength to the corners. Has anyone done it ?

If you are really worried about stressing the bucket lip when welding on chain hooks, just make a reinforcing pad to put on the FEL bucket then attach the hooks to the pad. I didn't have any scrap of sufficient thickness when I put hooks on my LS, so I found some brackets made for attaching springs to trailer axles. They were 4"x6"x3/8" thick. I welded them all around onto my top lip of the FEL, then welded the chain hooks to the pad. I have used these with a chain to lift the front end of my 1/2 ton Chevy truck off the ground and no movement of the hooks.
For these small CUT's which may be capable of lifting 800# at most, you wouldn't need that thickness of pad but the size should still be similar so any weight would be spread over a larger area. I would think at most a 3/16" thick 4x4 or 4x6 (whichever fits the top best) should work well.

Kennyd's photo at the bottom of post #6 illustrates it well. In a word Chain. Almost anything that you are trying to pick up that won't stay in the bucket calls for a chain and then where do you hook it ? Those hooks welded to the top of the bucket. I would estimate that 80% of the tractors larger than 25 hp that I have seen in recent years have hooks welded to the top of the loader bucket. "everyone" does it.
