Front or rear snowblower

Ditto smfcpacfp-- first snow or two gets packed down on top of stones, then I'm good to go with the blower, using "float" position on the FEL control. I try to maintain about a 2-5" base of packed snow through the winter, sand added if it gets icy.

I do the same thing on my gravel drive; leave a little first time and let it freeze then run on float. Had a rear mount blower for years but went to a B3030 and front blower w/ cab 2 years ago; my lifes perfect. There is a guy in Springville NY taking 3pt blowers, using a quick loader bucket mount and hydraulic drive and mounting blower on loader arms.

[QUOTE We are going to build a canopy and I love the golf cart cover idea.

Thanks,[/QUOTE]

I went with a weather break with my tractor as I already had a
sunshade and thought it would work okay for me.

Once installed I went out and purchased some Plexiglas from a local junk store
and added pieces of glass to the back side with a slot so
I could reach through and change the direction of the chute.

Took about two snowstorms to know that was not going to work
so I added an electric motor to rotate the chute.

I have not added a heater as there is a good amount of heat that is directed into the area from inside the weather break and if the temperature is above zero I am just fine inside. Not as nice as a commercial cab with heat and music, but it works for me LOL

That is what we are going to do. Plumb in a heater core with a small electric fan on it, at least help keep the chill off.

Princess Auto should have something.

What I did was obtain a school bus rear heater from a scrap yard.
They are about 6" X 6" square and made for an excellent tractor heater.
Inlet and outlet was 1/2" so I used regular 1/2" copper pipe for straight runs and heater hose to link into engine lines.

Has worked great for over 5 years for me.

Trial and error proved that best mounting location was near cab roof, upper right hand corner thereby blowing heat down towards feet and if necessary a deflector can blow some hot ait onto wind screen.

I did modify the fan by installing a 4" 12 volt computer type muffin fan which is far more efficient and draws a mere 1 amp or less. Also much more compact a fan. Also much quieter.

I use my tractor all winter in our real cold Canadien climate and am 'nice and cozy'.

Think I paid the scrapper about $20. for the heater, and yes the same unit is available from most auto parts for about $200. c/w the noisy blower that draws enough amps to run a battery flat in about 5 mins. (think the brand is Carter).

Hint;
Even though you have a nice and cozy cab now, still wear warm clothing.
I once had a problem that required me to walk back for a piece of repair hardware and near froze my a-- off! ( I now carry about 20lbs of spare pins bolts tools etc-just in case)
Last mod was to install a coat hook for that 'emergency' parka.

Regarding heat for a BX - I wonder what it would take to reverse the rotation of the fan blade and what may be negatively impacted by doing this?

(The intake for the radiator is right in front of the operator.)

I put a 3PH blower on my BX. I do use the loader for other winter chores such as firewood and spreading sand on the driveway hill.

Keep in mind that a blower will move a lot of snow but it is SLOW. We use the ATV for any snowfalls that are less than about 4". Snowblower speed = 2-3 mph; ATV plow speed = 10 mph.

All last winter I only used the blower one time:mad:
