Does anyoen have any information (links etc) for a small winch that is PTO powered?...I'm interested in a winch that can pull power from the front PTO on a B1700 Kubota (no mid mount mower)...not interested in elec. or hyd.

TIA

It is hard to believe a PTO winch for the front is so "unheard" of for tractors...
I've had both Willys' jeeps and Dodge power wagons that both had fron mounted winches that were powere by PTOs...

anyone ever add an auxillery hydraulic pump (powered by the front (2500 RPM) PTO ? this would eliminate tapping into the main hydraulics and could be used for a hydraulic winch as well as other attchments...

any ideas ?

I doubt you will find a purpose built winch for a tractor front pto. Why don't you adapt one from a truck. I am a sure a machine shop can help you out.

After giving it more thought and what is available...I am leaning toward the "auxillery hydraulic pump" idea...

I really would like to put the front PTO to use and I am interested in what others have done...

here is my thinking...(very much open to suggestion/correction)
[Kubota B1700 /FEL]
I am currently fabricating a front bucket grapple bar that will need to be plumbed and unless I can tap into the FEL loop I will need to supply the grapple cylinder...I also intend on adding Top and Tilt cylinders to the 3PH which will also need hydraulics...not forgetting a (now hydraulic) front winch...

it would save the cost (dealer remote expansion kit) and trouble of expanding the existing hydraulic system.?

it would give me an easy to expand system that could be used at the front or the rear (with additional plumbing)

from looking at it...I should have room for both a pump and a (fabricated) pan type reservoir...

would this be practical? any other ideas?

I think you're on the right track with a hydraulic winch with PTO pump.

In addition to what you listed, it has an advantage for the following reasons:

1. You can put the whole thing together with off the shelf items.
2. With the right mounting, it could also be adapted to the rear PTO.
3. Again with the mounting, it could be removed if needed without doing hydraulic surgery.

But then again you could just tap into the tractor hydraulics and save the cost of a pump/tank/filter. If you've got the skillz to tackle a project like this, you can probably tap into the main system.

Unless of course it would void your warranty. :)

mile marker makes hydraulic winches. easy to run off either a loader valve or a rear remote.

double the fun and make it 2" hitch style hookup and you can use it in the front back, werever you have hydraulic hookup and a 2" receiver mount

Thanks, I'm happy to see some input...

I will have to check/post in the hydraulic forum for options on the current FEL valve...but there are no other remote connections front or back

I'm comfortable fabricating just about anything that would be required in what I have described...where I am not familiar is with tractor hydraulic plumbing...(and how to tap into one)...

I can see myself wanting two sets of remotes in the rear (T&T/other) and two in the front (grapple/winch)...would this be cheaper/easier than an independant auxillery system?

as far as pumps...the forward PTO is 2500 RPM so either I would need a (gear) pump that was not designed for a 540 RPM...(may require gears/chain)?

might be another reason why the PTO driven pump idea may not be all that great. From what I've seen the PTO pumps are driven at 540. Then again, I haven't seen them all.

For the cost savings of the pump, you could make a pretty good dent into the cost of valves, lines and quick connects.

There are a lot of adequate pumps that take a max of 3600 RPM so depending on the pump, a direct drive link at 2500 should work...almost all of the pumps I looked at have higher GPM ratings than the tractor's native system...

not sure what would be required to make the direct drive link from PTO shaft to pump shaft...hopfully just a splined sleeve and a machined bushing??

Just make shure the pumps capacity does not exceed the available horsepower. Also 2500RPM sounds a little high-most Mid-PTO's are usually 2100 RPM but I am not sure on your machine. You will also need a separate tank and filter.
