I had most of what I needed laying around, and I am having an ever increasing hard time hand digging in my clay/chert soil, so I built what I call a front hoe.

If you are interested here's some fotos of my newly built, low cost digging tool. Doug

Very cool, nice job! How is the visibility with it out front so far?
Depends on ho much tilt I give the bucket arm. With it tilted below the FEL attach, I can see fine.

That's a great idea. Anything is better than digging by hand. :)

Poor man's backhoe or another like to have one but don't need it often, I like it and would like to see the build. I think this is something I need and would give me something to do in my spare time. Something to get the job done at a low cost. I'de like to hear more.

Is that linkage and bucket off a Bob-tach (Bobcat) backhoe ??
I bought one cheap and welded 3pt attachments to it. It wont win against a mini ex, but it saves my back digging in roots, rock or frozen soil..

cool!~ I started building one a couple weeks ago. I didn't want to rent a trencher or buy a backhoe, wont get used that much but I have about 45 bucks in materials that I didn't have laying around.

Do you have any plans, what I would have done different, or what not to do do ideas on this? I really like it, and would like to make one. Thanks for showing, like you, it isn't something I would use very often, but when needed, a backsaver.

I would make a swing cylinder on it. Mounted on a front loader you have boom (loader) dipper (this fronthoe) but you're missing the side swing: Now you have to do a lot of driving and steering to put the dirt aside the trench every cycle.
