My wife just brought in two Jalapeno Peppers from our garden that were half eaten....seeds and all and the teeth marks are visible....Now these are hot ones...I got the hiccups from one at dinner last night....So what critter can tolerate that heat ? I have never had that happen before...Not hot peppers....:confused3:

A Mexican Chihuahua. Those little suckers can pack the peppers away! Sorry, I have no real help.

A coworker once found a worm inside a jalapeño pepper. He brought it to work, keep it on his desk in a jar with a sack over it that said "Sennett Side Shows" and tried to charge us all 25 cents to look at it.

Arriba! Arriba! Andale! Andale! It's Speedy Gonzales of course.

Bob, in all seriousness, do you have large grasshoppers? How about birds? Remember, birds don't have lips.;) I had trouble with something chomping my cherry tomatoes, so I sprayed with Malathion. The next day, I found several big tomato horn worms on the ground.

Jim...We have a good amount of crows...but this happened during the night....are crows active at night ? There is actually a tooth mark on a couple of places not like a beak from a bird...?

They didn't get all the way through it because it got too hot.

On a side note I had one that somethign ate the tip off of and I just cut the tip off, cut most of the seeds out (probably didn't need to), and I have it in an omlet mix right now

Bob, I don't think crows are active at night, but they start very early in the morning, feeding just at dawn. However, crows and raccoons generally will do a lot of peripheral damage to the plant. Bigger animals tend to leave tracks or destroy more than the fruit. Insects and small birds are likely to do damage only to the fruit and mice tend to eat very low fruits they can easily reach from the ground. If the jalapenos were up in the top of the plant, I'd surely suspect an insect or small bird. If the plants were disturbed or branches broken, it could be a larger animal like a rat/rodent, possum, or raccoon; maybe even a skunk. Also, do you have terrapins/turtles?
