Gasoline Tractors are they coming Back ?

Hey Paystar ! I'm still running my 1959 M-F 50 gasoline as well at least weekly , But if they came out with newer tractors with gasoline engines would You buy one with a inline 6 or 4 cylinder if they were made available again? Have Merry Christmas !

Depends. Obviously new tractors have much more comfortable cabs and in most cases better hydraulic systems, but I've never been rich, so I don't like giving money away and I feel the new stuff is WAY over priced. Can I afford it? Yes. But I feel stupid buying it.
I have my little B and RTV which do not have any DPF or SCR and I have my bigger antiques that can do any job I need to do.
No they don't have cabs, radios, cup holders or blue tooth. But that is the whole appeal to me. I LOVE old stuff.

But more to your point, the government has completely ruined the diesel engine, which if they had left them alone could have been more fuel efficient and reliable than ANYTHING today. And I think a new gasoline engine is far superior when it comes to simplicity and reliability. I'm sure with the new technology they have in gas engines they can be very efficient in a tractor application and have way more torque than in the past.

Not to mention here where I live, off road diesel is over $2.00 per litre and gas is $1.54.

Would a newer gas be much better maintenance wise than diesel since the catalytic converters would be fire starters along with all the sensors on new gas engines.

In my experience with a regen on a DPF it gets way hotter than any cat on a gasser. My former 326 had DPF, during regen I was always leary of it starting a fire.

You raise an interesting question. One drawback of gas for occasional users is that it doesn't store as well as diesel does. I can shut my diesel tractor off, pull the key and walk away from it for a year. (Theoretically speaking... it's a rare occasion that it sets for more than a week.)

I concur some what in that I own a older gasoline tractor that I have owned for 26 years ! The longest I've let her sit is 3 months , & I have never had a issue with fuel in the tank or carburetor issues.

it blows my mind that I can hand start a 4 cyl farmall, when i was first told this, I was like really, but I did it last week in the 30's because the battery was too low. and she started pretty easy.

Very good point on the regen getting hot. I never even gave that a thought.

it blows my mind that I can hand start a 4 cyl farmall, when i was first told this, I was like really, but I did it last week in the 30's because the battery was too low. and she started pretty easy.

I cut a block of wood to hold down the clutch on our M Farmall for hand cranking in the winter. Not trying to turn the tranny at minus 20 makes starting much easier. Yes if tuned up typically first or 2nd crank it was running.

Next step will be electric, they are already out in different brands, but Kubota will have one out in "23".

Then a company already has engines coming out that are made to run on ethanol! I believe it's 89% ethanol, they are designed to be in heavy equipment.

I'm with you...my "newest" tractor is a 2002 Mahindra 6000 (4wd/front loader/backhoe). Pretty much no electronics, just guts. My "daily driver" is a 1967 Ferguson 135 with the Continental Z145 gas engine. That thing starts on the first crank every time...I bought it about 13 or so years ago...it only had 687 orginal hours on it..today it has 1100...I don't do heavy farm work with them, but don't know what I'd do without them....I also have a '74 Farmall 140 that I play with. I start them all every week if I don't have anything else to do with them....hope they last as long as I do. regards, BobG in VA

Me, I'd rather take gas than electric. I'd even go back to propane. Nice clean fuel. I had a Ford truck on propane and I never had any issues with that thing. Even here where it gets down to minus 40.
But they are even gouging us on the price of propane now too.
