At the end of the day you must be relieved to have it all behind you.

Happy tractoring!

More than you know !

which they fail to do on a regular basis.

look, put a decent size rock on flat ground and put a rear wheel up on the rock. ease the machine one way or the other and try to hold it with the 'brake'.

good luck.

and don't tell me that using my machine on uneven ground is an incorrect application of the equipment.

i love my 2410, but like anything else, there will always be room for improvement. leaking hydraulic lines and lousy brakes aren't going to drive me to another brand... but they are what they are. lousy.

what wacky did was stupid, but that doesn't change the fact that the brakes on these machines are a joke.

I don't have a problem with the brakes on mine. I'm definatly going to be carefull whenever leaving my seat-make sure it's on level ground whenever possible. My tractor stops just fine. Tractors don't really need brakes if you know how to operate it, my dad has a 64 Case loader that he still operates today, hasn't had brakes since 1981. In my opinion a tractor is too dangerouse to operate on slopes anyway-too many things can happen and they are all bad. For the most part a good operator knows how to use the transmission to do all the work-thats what it's there for.

This way you can put the whole thing behind you now.

I have learned not to rely on anyone, for anything.

I even do my own warranty work. I don't need the aggravation of having to do half of it over when their done.

some people take longer to figure out how to use their machines than others.:)

Here's to hoping you do some day.

Regardless if you think I am "stupid" or not.

i didn't say you were stupid, i said what you did was stupid... and it was.

btw, did you get a 2410 or a 2610?

some how i doubt that anything i do would meet with your standards.

fortunately, your standards are irrelevant and your 2 cents worth is easy to afford.

glad you got the whole thing figured out. And enjoy your new ride, it is definatly well deserved. and i hope Massy gets to work to fix that park brake issue. The park brake on my Yanmar is more "high tech" than that.

Great news that you got another tractor! Congrats! This is the best outcome for you in the long run, aside from the $2.5k. You must be relieved the saga is drawing to a close.

It will be interesting to see if you ever hear anything more from the rep concerning the brake. My speculation would be no. Nothing will happen (recall wise) unless a number of really bad accidents happen. The more probable outcome is there may be a redesign with the next GC model.

In any case, Happy Tractoring!

There was a problem with the 2300 series, back in 2005, involving the transmission oil filter.

There was no protective cover, and people were finding lots of different ways to break the filter off.

MF addressed the problem, and came up with a fix. It was a slow process. But, they did finally offer a retrofit to the original models.

Based on my experience with this, which involved corresponding with people who were working on it, they sincerely wanted to solve the problem, and do it in a matter that would be practical and functional. So, I believe that they will address the issue of parking brake not staying locked.

It certainly appears that this is not an isolated problem, and it is certainly a safety issue, so I can't see how they can ignore it. Nor, do I believe they would want to.

I don't know how fast they can fix this, but it is probably going to take a while.

If you are dissatisfied, I would not bother with reps, or dealers. Go directly to MF customer service, and keep the pressure on them, with phone calls, and e-mails.

wow I just read the entire thread, some very passionate people on here.
MF was one of the brands I looked at, both the GC and the 1600, only reason I did not buy a MF was the dealer p...ed me off at the end of the deal ( a guy I had known for over 25 years).
I guess it was a lucky BRAKE for me

I will go test out my Bobcats brakes a little more tomorrow, I have done some of the things you guys have posted and never seemed to have had an issue.

Good point about the transmission filter. However the fix for that was pretty simple, a bolt on guard. Similarly the hydro pedal return to neutral recall was a fairly simple fix as well, from what I understand about it. My machine was not affected however.

Looking at the parking brake issue, I don't see any quick, easy fix for this. At least I can't come up with a simple bolt-on-a-new-part or swap-a-spring kind of fix. It really needs a completely different design for holding the brake pedal down. Perhaps a adaptation of the friction based parking brake arrangement like on my little Ranger pickup.

It is worth noting that I have not seen any evidence of a brake part actually failing. We have evidence of #1 - a design that is prone to allow the operator to not fully engage the latch. And #2 - potential evidence that the brake may require what some may consider excessive force to set it firmly enough to hold on a slope. I personally believe the crux of the issue is #1. I personally believe a "fix" would be to have a more foolproof latch design.

As to being dissatisfied. Actually, to the contrary, I am very satisfied with the GC. I have been very pleased with the machine and with my interaction with Agco. Like you, when I have spoken with people at Agco I have found them very responsive, very willing to be helpfull and honest about trying to do what is best.

I realize no machine is prefect. I recognize this brake design and adjust my actions accordingly. I have no concern the brake will let go as I visually verify full engagement. I have also not had any issue with the brake not holding on a moderately steep slope. However I adjusted the brake carefully and I set the brake quite Firmly with the brake at nearly the bottom of its travel (generally one tooth up from the bottom). Again, recognize the issue and adjust accordingly. I was fortunate I did not have to learn about the brake the hard way. I realized within the first couple hours of operation I needed to be careful with the brake.

I still believe the GC is the best subcompact on the market at this time. I very satisfied with the GC, my dealer and with Agco. In fact, my purchase of the GC has been more satisfying then any car I have purchased. I fully believe Agco will continue to refine and improve the design of the GC. I hope I am wrong about my prediction that a latch redesign may not be seen until the next model.

TO all who read this post, everything above is my opinion and my opinion alone. I do not purport any of this as FACT. Nothing more than speculation based on a very limited set of observations. It's just my :2cents:
