Oil & Fuel GC1715 Blowing hydraulic fluid

The most likely spot to get air in the suction side is the strainer/filter behind the left rear tire. There is an o ring on the tractor side of the housing that may not be installed correctly. It may not leak oil, but could allow air to enter. If you just did a fluid change, I would assume you removed it to clean the strainer. There are videos of it on YouTube.

No I didn't remove i took it out the last time I did service and it looked like new so this time I didn't remove it.

Unless the fluid is looking a little milky, I would doubt an air leak. Check the filler cap. They are poorly constructed for a $25 part.

Just curious, what hydro fluid are you using?

Drained fluid and changed the filter again put a new filter on it again this time put the filter on that matched the one I took off turns out it fits the GC2300 it is about a inch taller. That didn't help turn out I think it does it when I run on a hill on my property. Talked to mechanic at local dealer said he never heard of one doing that.

Did you try opening the vent hole on the filler cap? The pressure builds in the hydro housing, can blow out the sight gauge, and eject oil out the fill tube when going up hill.

I Just purchased a new 2018 GC1720. So far the tractor has performed flawlessly. I have about 10 hrs on the tach and decided I should look the tractor over for any issues. When I removed the fill cap for the transmission I was surprised to hear a good bit of pressure escape from the filler neck...

Early version of the GCs also had a breather hose that seems to be missing on the GC1705/10. They never suffered from these issues. From what I know, the only vent for the transmission case now is the filler cap. It is poor quality.

There is about a 1/16 hole in cap/plug that directly connects to bottom side of plug for vent, if you can take something like a can of WD 40 or PB Blaster with a wand and blow product through hole, venting is not your problem....

IF you change filters and problem did not go away, filter is not your problem....

Only other way to change volume of hydraulic fluid if it is drawing air in some place and aerating fluid enough to change volume in HST drive and the only way extra volume can excape is through cap/vent ....
