GC2310 snowblower driveshaft flew off...

One other thing on the 2360 blower... It was really obvious once I removed the blower for summer storage, but I hadn't noticed while using the thing that ALL FOUR mounting bolts which attach the quick-hitch "shoe" to the blower were loose, one almost ready to lose its nut.... That could have created some interesting effects if I hadn't run out of snow when I did. Now I understand why the manuals all stress checking torque on just about everything very frequently....:D

It interesting that you should mention these 4 bolts. After the first two uses of my 2360 when I did a walk around after shutting her down, I noticed one of those bolts completely missing and the nut from a second completely gone as well. The only thing holding that bolt in was the tension between the two parts. I went down to the local hardware store and got lock washers and replacement parts and tightened everything back up. Also gave the dealer an earful as well. Yes you should check them for tightness at the beginning of every season at a minimum.

Update,

Weasler Engineering has not (yet) responded to my inquiry about a longer yoke (it's been 8 days).

The MF dealer said my tractor went out of warranty on 3-20 (2 years) so I'd have to bring in the entire setup (tractor, quick connect, snowblower and driveshaft) rather than just the quick connect and driveshaft to show them the play in it. Then they said they'd try to get a factory rep to look at it and do a 'good faith' warranty repair (remember the tractor only has 70.8 hrs on it and only about 20-25 hrs on the driveshaft). The dealer is also 120 miles away (each way) and that would mean 2 separate trips for a total of 480 miles. Plus, I don't own a trailer big enough to haul all that and I'd have to borrow one, twice.

I told him, his suggestion was too uncertain and too much trouble for the small repair that it is and that I would go to the local John Deere dealer (7 miles away) and see if they could help me.

Does anyone actually know what the MF P/N is for this front slip yoke on the mid-pto driveshaft that connects to the Quick Connect on the 2300 series, and probably now the 2400 series. The number stamped on it 6 or 8 (hard to tell)-19190 is not the P/N according to Weasler.

Thanks,

Walt-- I recently received the M-F shop service manual I'd ordered from the dealer, but, alas, it covers the tractor only, no peripherals (comes with a complete part# section).

Seeing as the blower itself is (apparently?) made by AGCO, and from what I gather the Bota blower is the same.... granted, the mid-PTO driveshaft might not be precisely the same, but I wonder if a Kubota dealer might be able to help out with the part # thing--- I'd be willing to bet their driveshaft extension uses the same yoke. (Gotta mate up to the AGCO blower, right?)

I've asked the MF dealer parts guy to do a little research for me. Nearest Kubota dealer is 100 miles away, my MF dealer is 125 miles (one way). If I can get the MF P/N for the yoke, Weasler said they might be able to help me out. All I need is that P/N. It really shouldn't be this difficult. You'd think the instructions for the quick connect, snowblower or mid-pto driveshaft would have P/N's. But that would be far too easy.

Have the Dealer get you a whole new driveshaft at no charge if they can't get you the freak'n p/n for a new yoke.

This is Cucch the originator of this thread. I received a new driveshaft, but mine had been destroyed when it flew off. The new driveshaft was more heavy duty than the original. It seems like it could have been longer. I hope it works out ok. I won't know now till winter.

My mid shaft was reset to the 6 5/8 inches and they ground flat spots on the short shaft where 2 of the 4 set screw locations were to help keep the shaft from moving.

Should be a recall on these! Too dangerous when they malfunction.

Good luck!

It's out of warranty by 1 1/2 months even though it's only got 70.8 hrs on it, and the dealer is 125 miles away. They want me to bring in the tractor, Quick Connect, the snowblower and the driveshaft and leave it there till they can get a factory rep in to look at it and 'maybe' do a good faith repair. I'd have to borrow a trailer twice and drive a total of 600 miles and be without the tractor for who knows how long. Too much trouble and too much effort to do it their way. I'll try to fix it myself, and maybe even improve the reliability of that setup.

That's a bummer... I would think you could just bring them the snowblower mount and driveshaft. That's all I brought in for them to fix it.

They should definitely cover it even though it is out of warranty by 1 1/2 months. It sounds like a manufacturer's
defect to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RECALL!!!!!!

I can understand the hassles of the drive and then dealing with them. Fortunately my dealer is 12 miles away...

Good luck,

O.K., after much communication between the dealer parts counter and countless e-mails, pictures, drawings, etc.... with an engineer at Weasler (manufacturer of the slip yoke) I have the following data to share.

The stock front yoke on the mid-PTO driveshaft is MF P/N 4263176m91.

Weasler does make a 1" longer yoke that has the exact same dimensions except for length. It is Weasler P/N 812-0615.

I spec'd both with a digital micrometer and all dimensions are the same except the length with the 812-0615 being 1" longer.

I bought 812-0615 from InlandTruck for $26.05.

The new 812-0615 slips over the rear Quick Connect shaft nicely with noticeably less play in it than the original (shorter) yoke.

As stated in my previous posts, with this new 1" longer yoke I should still have .620" of shaft visible when the mid-pto driveshaft is pushed forward, far enough to install on the mid-pto output shaft at the rear of the tractor.

When the driveshaft is locked in place all the way back on the mid-pto output shaft, I should still have greater than 1.6" of rear Quick Connect shaft showing in front of the new yoke.

Question ? I assume the caps on the universal joints can just be pryed off to reveal the C-clips that retain the bearing caps?

Cucch - My shaft sticks out of the rear of the Quick Connect within 5/16" of the spec'd distance. As well, there is not much more shaft that can be extended rearward without negatively affecting the front of the shaft coming out of the Quick Connect.

See the attached photo.
