Generac Whole Hose Generator

/ Generac Whole Hose Generator #21
hr3. The Honda generator will be too small in the near future ie: well pump & some other additions to our camp. Yes we already use propane and will be expanding our use of it. Propane refrig.
skyco. I got the generac from a friend of mine with the intention of using it at our camp.
Toboy. I will be installing a large tank which can be filled by a propane co. Our propane needs are for running a stove to cook on, a refrig, a few wall mounted heaters, lamps & the generator.
Do you think it is not a good idea to use this generator the way I plan to use it ?

I think you are good:thumbsup: Only caveat will be the battery and standby system drain in the unit...personally I'd just install a battery disconnect switch and leave it off when gone..maybe a small solar charger to keep the battery up if you are gone for long periods as they discharge to some extent even disconnected.
One tip- don't know how loud it is but you might want to put it a good distance away..at my camp my "silenced" generator is locked into 2" pipe steel cage that is encapsulated into a 1200 lb concrete pad to help insure it remains mine. At about 1700 lbs total some thief isn't just gonna easily toss it into the back of a pickup. I wish I had put it farther away*, partly due to noise and also exhaust smell.... and thats one plus of LP generators to me they don't stink like gasoline or diesel:cool:

*future project to relocate and bury plastic conduit AC feed back to the camp.

Didn't think about the battery. The gen set has a trickle charger built in that keeps the battery up while not in use. Oher than that, it should take care of all your needs.

Timber,,, Skyco nailed it in his last reply.. The only thing I would add to that is ... When you install the unit run enough conductors to be able to move the " Run : Off : Auto" switch into the cabin so you can turn it off and on from there,, That is unless you are going to set it up as an on demand..

Hey, I have a deal for you. I've got a Deutz powered 8KW cont 10 KW intermittent diesel generator I am selling. I went with diesel because the fuel will last forever and is a whole lot cheaper to run than propane. It uses about 0.4 gal/hr at 3/4 load. I got a new larger unit so I have one available.

paul

How about some details, price, # of hours, some pics of the Deutz generator.
Thanks.

I've been toying with a long range remote, my camp is on a mountain and I can easily hit a remote receiver there via amateur radio before I leave the house 120 air miles away.
Not needing to start the generator but it would be cool, literally, to start up the LP RV fridge at my camp so it is cold when I get there;)
I could even leave the beer in it ahead of time! Only glitch is the fridge would have to be spotless clean to not have mold/mildew etc grow in it if left closed but off for weeks at a time. I suppose I could get really creative and wire up a solenoid to slam the door when starting the fridge remotely.

BTW- "wala" is voila, see it mispelled all the time on the net:drink:

get the 4 channel one
Auto Roll 4 Channel RF Remote Control

then you can open and close it with the 3 and 4th channel

oh wait get one of these to bring the beer to you while you are there too

Well I am finally going to get this project started. The generator has been sitting for some time now. Heading up to my camp next week. We have already trenched in the conduit pipe from the cabin to the generator site. Now I am going to pour a concrete pad for the unit to sit on, then build an enclosure around the unit. I still have to talk with the local propane co. about a tank set up, not sure what size we will need. I spoke with the folks from Generac & they said the battery will charge when the generator is running but there will be some draw on the batt when not running. A batt disconnect was recomended. As was a solar batt charger. The generator will be wired 240 volts that will give me 33 amps. A electrician friend recomended to use a Main Lug Pannel with a 40 amp 2 pole breaker in the cabin. The run from the generator to the cabin is 130 '. I am going to use #8 wire. Does anyone have any ideas or advice for this type of set up ? In mid August we are having a water well put in. They quoted the set up 350' deep using a 3/4hp starite pump. Any idea what demand this will put on a generator ? In case the big one is not up & running I have a smaller portable generator ? Thanks John

Timber, breaking in late on this, but you need the amperage of the motor on the well pump. Voltage drops over distance and due to resistance of the wire, you could need larger wire on your feeder or branch circuit? Depends on total length of wiring from gen to well motor.??Just food for thought?

I have to find out the amperage of the well pump. I do know it is 220volts. The distance from the well site to the panel is under 50'.

Simple a 3/4 hp 2220v moter draws 5.2 ams running.. inrush should be about 45amps..
