GM Truck Warranty

I have heard people say that the American car makers cars was junk and that is why in post 119 that I listed my vehicles and told of the lack of problems that I have had from them. If when people that have bought foreign implant cars and trash the USA cars and the satisfied USA car owners don't speak up and tell their experiences then people form their opinions according to the total negative report of some one that has had a bad experience with a car. I know that some people that have bought foreign cars have had good experiences with them, but I have had good experiences with my domestic made cars also. It seems like the ceo for Ford has some zeal about his company, the ceo for Chrysler seems like he has a heavy load, I wonder how long he has been their ceo and if the former ceo left him set up for this failure, I like the idea of the remake of the challenger, hope that was his idea, the ceo for gm seems like he was more aggravated than interested probably because he was getting beat up. When we get through this I hope the ceo's of these companies can find an excitement about their product a little zeal can any one remember the commercial tell them Kelly sent ya?

As long as people say "North American and nothing else" GM will continue to take you to the cleaners, if they are able to continue on. They have created their own problem and I hope neither American nor Canadian governments throw away their (our) tax dollars to support a company with such an arrogant attitude.

What about people like me who own GM vehicles and don't have any problems?

Just because you got a bad Montana, does that mean I have a bad Sierra and a bad Tahoe?

Perhaps you need to take a break from excessive generalizing of everyone who owns GM vehicles?

Exactly. An 04 Sierra 1500CC, and a 00 Sunfire, both have been excellent. Will replace the Sunfire with a truck next fall!!

Electric cars are nothing new, they've been around since the early 1900's.

Yeah, and batteries were the problem then. The battery in the Volt contains about 1% as much energy per pound as gasoline. Batteries have a long way to got to match gasoline in energy density. Plug in hybrids may work, but a pure electric will be very limited in range and useability.

The worst car I have ever owned in my life was a honda cvcc. Nothing else come close. I know a lot of people who had them and had great luck. Every car maker has cars that have problems. It is mechanical and something is going to go wrong with one now and then. I think from what I have seen with american manufacturers in the past was their hurry to bring a new technology on line without adequate testing. Chevrolet vega being the best example I can think of. It was a really good idea but we did not have the metalurgical ability to make that engine work at that time. I personally do not buy any one brand. I test drive a lot of different brands. I then do as much online research as I can and then I make my final decision based on which one fits my needs the best. In my garage now there is a GM company vehicle, actually a second GM company vehicle which is a tracker but basically was built by suzuki. A japanese company vehicle (made in the US) and a German made vehicle (made in germany :(

Each one fits a particular want or need in my scheme of things and was bought after quite a bit of thought and fact finding. Sometimes it might just be little differences. The sports car we started looking at in 2004 we bought a 2005 because the roll bars are sitting further back in the 2005 and I did not hit my head on them when I was sitting in the seat and hit a bump. In todays economy people that want to buy american have a tough decision. Do you buy the american corp car built in mexico or the Japanese car built in alabama.

I am sure that the members of the UAW are considering pay cuts and concessions also.

Well, no, not really. The completely corrupt union leadership (who couldn't care less if they run their rank and file out of work) are refusing to make any concessions from the current contract they have on the domestic automakers. Do you have any idea how much money the UAW has? I assure you that none of the union bosses need to work. Ghettofinger is going to see to it that the UAW becomes extinct in short order. Before the UAW the UMWA was the most powerful union. They too felt like they could do anything they wanted and hold companies like Peabody hostage. All they did was put tens of thousands of union coal miners out of work. Peabody coal company may not be around much in name, but their spin offs with different names are working 3 shifts a day cranking out coal with non-union miners who are extremely happy with their jobs. If anything, the UAW rank and file should look into that history a bit to see their future. The bloated salaries of select high ranking executives don't amount to a tenth of a percent of the cost that is dragging companies down when compared to what the UAW workers cost the companies.

Nah, I wouldn't even come close to going there. Thanks for having me clarify something I certainly did not intend to imply though. He's the feckless leader of the UAW.

I am so glad that you are entitled to speak for the UAW. I am also fascinated that you know exactly what all those members are thinking. Obviously you need to just be the person in charge of this whole situation and all the members of the auto industry will be back at work and the economy will be sound and on track. Have you submitted your name to President elect Obama yet. I dont believe the position of great savior of the United States Economy has been filled yet.

AS far as the UAW goes. I dont know if the leadership of the UAW is corrupt or not. At least they have not been charged with anything as far as I know. One of the things that you seem to not be able to understand is that the salaries that they are paid are the direct results of contract negotiations. Those are signed legally binding documents. No one has the authority to lower those salaries without the vote of the affected workers. If the choices come to being unemployed or taking concessions the only ones that can make that decision are the workers themselves. If they decide they would rather be unemployed than to take a pay cut that is their right. If you are going to mention about the workers who are not union members in right to work states. I have never heard a scab complain about making too much money in salaries and benefits. They just want to be able to spend all their money on themselves not pay their way like union members do.

If you had read my links I provided in my posts you will see that I am of the opinion that when it comes time to make any decisions concerning pay cuts, Union members might think twice about it being worthwhile to do when they see articles about what happened in the airline industry. Airline union members took cuts so that the airlines could stay in buisness and then saw where the first year that the airline made a profit they took that entire profit and gave it to upper managers in the form of a bonus. Some people did not like taking a pay cut and working hard to keep his employer in buisness so that his employers upper managers could split millions of dollars in bonuses. If I was in the UAW i might be worried about the same thing happening to me.

I apologize for my post. I realize that we are not supposed to discuss politics. I believe that union bashing is political however and maybe should not be discussed in this forum

Too bad there weren't more happy GM customers like yourself willing to put your dollars into your favorite company to keep it going and keep government from getting involved. There are better places for them to be putting their dollars.

If you read my posts carefully you will see that my complaint wasn't the fact I had two blown head gaskets, but the fact GM was unwilling to stand behind their product. It is unreasonable for them to call two blown head gaskets at less than 150,000 km normal.

For me, the same would go for domestic service. I have had only one reason to go back to the dealer for both my GMs -that was for a steering wheel rattle in my Sierra. It was happily fixed under warranty.

Previously, I owned lots of Fords. They had a few more problems than I would have liked, but the various Ford dealers I bought them from were happy to fix them at no cost to me. Sometimes problems caused by me. They would still fix them for me. I even had a few problems after the warranty expired and they still fixed them for me. Free reflashes & updates, too. All i did was ask.

I have been very happy with domestic vehicle service thusfar.

I think you had a bad dealer service department. That can happen with any brand.

The BEST service department I've ever experienced was VOLVO (owned by FORD). They would offer to pick the car up, service it, wash and vaccuum it, and deliver it back to us. If you waited for the car, they had an astonishing waiting room with leather easy chairs, wireless, a 50" big screen, coffee bar and pastries. Never seen anything like it.
