I've never had much of a problem. It's usually just a few hunters in the fall. Looking for new areas to hunt.

In the fall the ground can be very wet, soggy and muddy. A few have learned an expensive lesson. Drive off my driveway - out into the neighbors fields - you are VERY likely to get stuck.

And NO - I will NOT come pull your vehicle out with my tractor. Not for any amount - $$$$.

They can call the local wrecker service and deal with it that way.

They came thru my outer gate - right past the BIG NO Trespassing sign - the solution is their problem.
I'd be tempted to ask them where they live, and if they have a nice TV? What brand? Why did they choose that one? Do they like it? Can you call someone and have them bring my your TV? I'd like to try it out. If I like your TV, I'll trade you. You give me your TV and I'll pull you out. But you have to sign this damage waiver before we hook up.

But that would probably make them mad, and risk personal injury. So, I agree with your original plan... but it would be fun. 🙃

Moss - I pulled a fellow out - - ONE time. He was a "new born" IDIOT. I pulled him out and stopped. He continued on and ran into my rear blade. No damage to the tractor or rear blade. Thousands of dollars damage to the front of his pickup.

And then he had the BALLS to try and sue me. After my insurance company refused to pay.

In the end - I paid zero. But I SWORE - never again.

If a fellow thinks about it - these are the facts. You do not have the appropriate equipment to effect a pull. You do not have the necessary insurance. Most likely - you do not have much experience. And you don't have the necessary licenses.

I've stopped many times - made certain that there were no emergencies and that somebody had a cell phone to call for service.

When was the last time you called a plumber to repair a tooth ache.

I hear you. I never offer to pull people out of snowbanks unless they are personal acquaintances. And even then, I have them hook up the tow strap.

I will offer to call someone for people that are stuck, but that's about all I'll do.

Although, a few years ago, I was driving to work and saw an elderly woman standing on the side of the road crying. As I approached, I noticed tire tracks going off the side of the road, through a chain link fence around a dry retention pond. Apparently she lost control on a straight road, and the car went through the fence and into the dry pond. Couldn't see if from the road. She managed to crawl out.

So I stopped, asked her if she was OK, put her in the front seat of my Suburban, cranked up the heater and called the police for her. I stayed right there until they arrived, and the officer helped me transfer her into his car. He thanked me and my boss punched me in on-time for the good deed. (y)

You never know just how some people think.

Several years back the Model A Ford club was on tour and stopped for lunch at a then destination restaurant Nut Tree.

Finishing lunch we head out to the parking lot and the chapter President sees people around his Model A and as he is approaching thinking the worst (theft, fire, accident) he sees the hood up and a child inside jerking the wheel from side to side…

The normally mild manner guy is is anything but and let’s the family gathered know…

The father of the children says what’s the big deal… the kids like your car and I was giving them a look…

My friend walks over to the family’s Buick opens the door and gets in and then releases the hood and calls us closer.

The father and his wife start screaming and the wife is calling 911 and the club President says what’s the big deal? I like your car and was just showing it to my friends…

I was silent as this unfolded and then security comes over.

I use to drive my antique cars all the time even to Home Depot but finding zero respect for private property I never do unless I can see it…

Coming back to your car and finding kids sliding down the fenders was enough…

it’s a different world now…

I've pulled out a few stuck vehicles in my day but I cringe when I look under the new models. Where do you hook the tow strap or chain so it won't cause damage? It seems there is no such thing as a bumper anymore. No axles either since most have independent suspension. Not many have recovery hooks these days either. I've used tire straps a few times but now, if the vehicle is really stuck, I'm afraid I'll pull a wheel off! As others have said, better leave it to the experts unless it's something simple.

I applaud the "Do Gooders" though. The world needs more of them. I consider myself to be one, but do so with extreme caution. There are good Samaritan laws in many states but most don't protect against property damage.

Where's the tow hook?

If you look at a lot of cars, there's a small plastic cover on or near the front and rear bumpers. Pop that cover off, and there's a threaded receptacle for a tow hook. The tow hook is usually near the spare tire. Remove it from it's storage position, take it to the threaded receptacle, screw it in, and tow the car out.

I still pull a few people out, but it all depends on many factors.
Major ones do I know the person or the family, are they local or not, what they are driving,
and to a certain extent what the bumper stickers are.

I do check on them all and make sure no one is injured or really needs something.

Mossroad have you seen how flimsy that tow eye is and you had better pull real gentle and straight.

Following this discussion brings back a few memories.

Like I usually try to help and never ask for $$'s but generally say 'we do like wine' leaving choice up to them.
Well one young hippy couple were overjoyed and promised me the finest but that never happened.
A month later in cold of winter they went off of the road and phoned late a Sunday for help.
I made them wait while I had to dress and plug my block heater etc.
I arrived and held out my hand and demanded a payment B4 hooking up.
They acted most belligerent saying it should be a neighborly thing to do.
Well I did get $50. for that tow.
(they were actually trespassing on private property)

Another 'get even' was a drive that I used to plow and learned (via school bus kids) that they were moving that Saturday so I stopped by to collect my due fees.
He swore and told me to where to go.
LOL I waved at him that Saturday as he was out shoveling his 500 ft drive with a garden shovel.
I actually stopped and honked to be sure he got my message.
Mind U that wave actually was a $300. loss but satisfying.

Only problem with that is you need the proper device to thread into that receptacle and who carries such an assortment just to be a good seminarian.
