Only problem with that is you need the proper device to thread into that receptacle and who carries such an assortment just to be a good seminarian.
The tow hook is in the trunk by the spare tire.

The tow hook is in the trunk by the spare tire.
I have had a few of my cars towed over the years (mechanical failures, and a side wall rip out on a vehicle with no factory spare, twice:rolleyes:, bad factory tires), and while I have the gizmo in my trunks, it has never been used by the pros. They reached under and used sling hooks. No damage, no complaints from me.

Looking at the tow hooks, I do wonder how much force they can really take. It looks just sufficient to winch a vehicle on to a flat bed carrier, but certainly not up to a kinetic rope and mud or snow embankment, but I'm not an expert.

I have pulled folks out over the years, mainly in the back of beyond. I have seen many of them over and over as the years pass. I have to admit that I am struck by how ungrateful they were in general. If the tow truck is going to take two hours to get there, that's a five hour charge plus mileage...

Sigh. Why isn't everyone perfect?:LOL:

All the best,

Peter

Four winters ago - a big, black Mercedes Benz went off our county road into the plowed snow bank. It was a family of four from Seattle. I stopped. They were all cold but OK. I invited them into my warm pickup while they waited for help. The wife and two children were really happy for this help. The husband kept grousing - saying, why don't you just pull us out. His complaining got louder and louder. Finally - his wife says - "if all you are going to do is complain - get out of this pickup and stand outside and complain". I could have hugged her.

Good to know as I was not aware of that.
Only cars I've had were missing them I guess, but then they were preowned so previous owner probably kept them.
Yeah, probably check to see if what I said is actually true...

I've never had to resort to it. The few times our car was towed, they just came up with a truck that picked the wheels off the ground and off they went. The Suburban they hooked onto the frame and winched it onto a rollback flatbed.

Twice my kids' cars died and I used a friend's tow dolly to pick them up. Just rolled one onto the dolly. The other I winched on by hooking to the subframe. Pretty flat ground with little rolling resistance.

Hey, my wife's car was bought new and I never found that tow device, besides no more spare tire but a small battery powered compressor.
LOL, the compressor would be OK for slow leaks but what to do with a blow out?
Shucks pot holes* are so bad that you'd even need a spare rim as well.

*A while back my local garage was showing me about a dozen distorted and trashed rims caused by pot holes.

We lost a rim on our 2013 Impala due to chuck hole. Bent and cracked aluminum rim. Grrr!

What kind of car is it? We could google it up and see if it has the device somewhere.

She drives a Kia Reo, about 4/5 yrs old.

Guess we're Kia lovers as mine is a AWD Serento and I've got a full sized spare, actually LOL, 8 more spares as we mount winters on rims and when I shopped for my last winter set I lucked out finding a mounted studded set of 4 for only $400. that had but 3 months usage EG, nothing stops me.

Now I have a problem getting rid of the old winters as to recycle them they must be off the rims.
