Going back rural.... Can't wait, where to look?

I am located in Queensland and we haven't been locked down like the southern states. In fact only one or two cases of covid that are in quarrantine here. (travellers) In our area we do have to wear masks but wonder at that reasoning. 15 klm away they don't have to wear masks. Hopefully not for much longer.
My brother married a girl in the Ukraine and wanted to come here but they won't allow her to as her health is not perfect. He is stuck there.
I think if you have plenty of money and can support yourself healthwise you can get in.
Personally I wouldn't live anywhere else.
It's always nice to live where you would like to be. 👍

There are mountains in many parts of the country, all of which are scenic.
The term "mountain", like the term "scenic", is subjective to the eye of the beholder ;)

To each their own. What I find beautiful and inspiring may not hold true for others.

The old adage "Home is were the heart is" has a lot of validity IMO.

Lucky for me, the place I love to live right now in my moment of time doesn't require a high speed internet access than I can currently get by with 🤣

Absolutely.

I have friends in Montana who believe if there isn’t snow on top all year, it’s a hill not a mountain.

Lol, some 13000 ft ones in Colorado then wouldn’t qualify.

My friends see Glacier National Park out their back window. None of those peaks exceed 13000 feet - but they have snow year round.

I guess Colorado peaks get above freezing?

Some of those points make me think of Northern Arkansas or southern Missouri. Also, maybe Tennessee, south of Nashville. North Ark is great river country. So is NC, but the more mtms, make wifi hard. Google fiber or cable may be the place to start. It is first on the list. It is limited in the areas you are talking about. i think Google Fiber is the best, unless you a second carrier with a fail router using two carriers. A good router of this type would run $600-$800. Also, did you want seasons - spring - summer- fall - winter?.

First, please stop with the acronyms as many here wont understand them and you are forcing them to look the up. DS1, T3, GoM, STBXW. Plain speak ;)

You’re requirements are very specific and conflict considerably. If you want to be away from people you are choosing spotty internet. The dirty secret about rural internet (as some folks here are eluding to) is while you can look at some fancy charts online to see where coverage is a available, getting a reliable signal is another thing entirely. For example the area I am in has 2 different cellular carriers that show 4GLTE full signal, but only 1 of them works “most” of the time. The other one I have to go to a certain place on the property.

Wired internet is non-existent in many places (and also where I am). The closest town of 500 people has Centurylink DSL, but the signal in from the nearest major city is garbage. The signal in town is horrible, they are luck to get 1 mb up, 5mb down and it isn’t reliable. My parents in rural TX were just about the same. We went with a Point to Point connection there (built a $3000, 60 ft tower for line of site to connect to a tower 10 miles away in town).

Starlink is a promising option, but still in Beta. So far I have been very happy with it, but the jury is still out.

Now on to Location. We can narrow this request down to “I want land within 90 min of a major airport”. This is getting more and more expensive to accomplish as many cities/suburbs are growing beyond that 1 hour commute. Notice you didn’t say 90 miles. Within 90 min of a major airport with traffic would put you smack dab in the middle of a busy suburb. So you will need to go some place really back woods. To compare my parents place is 70 miles from DFW airport in Dallas but its a 2.5 hour commUte in traffic. Land there is about $15k an acre, and land developers are buying it all up.

I woudl look at Idaho, but it does have state income tax. Boise airport isn’t huge, but it supports enough flights that you can connect if you need to hit international terminals.

What about WV, NC, SC, TN, GA?
I’m going to second Boise Idaho. I have a daughter that moved there 6 years ago . I’m thinking maybe moving out there after retirement. Only bad thing is all the Callie people moving in.
You can still find a large house and lot in a great school district for under 600k . The airport is small and easy to navigate. It has flights to almost everyplace in the USA.
The weather in the Valley is very timid only have about 40 days of colder weather. I visit every March and we downhill Ski one day and golf in shorts the next . The mountains are beautiful and just 2 hours north is McCall Idaho. Excellent Snowmobiling and skiing and golf also a huge Reservoir for water sports . Good luck in your search.
