First, congratulations, Garry! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Second, it sounds like you have a plan for retirement. My father did not. He didn't think he'd make it to retirement, but he did. Perhaps this is more advice to the TBNers who have not retired...plan what you want to do. Golf, travel, public or volunteer service, etc. The routine my dad had for over 40 years was gone 'overnight' and he had nothing to replace it with. He went through a rough time the first couple of months.

Great to hear your gonna have some free time on your hands. I know of a place that you could spend some time on a tractor moving dirt and taking out trees. If you ask really nice, you might even be able to build a lake!!!!!

Seriously, congratulations.

Congratulations on your retirement. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
If you make it to Southeastern Michigan in your travels. Stop by. We have a golf course in walking distance from our place. But I will let you use our Golf Cart to get there. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hey ! Good for you ! A word of advice if I may . I try to always have something torn apart in the shop in case the wife wants me to do some honey do job . Having your hands greasy and talking to your self also helps . Most times, I can then sneak out the back of the shop ,around the corner and head over to the gun club . Always have a backup plan in case you get caught and practice saying it in front of a mirror until you can do it with a straight face .

Good advice, Mike. For those who have not planned their retirement, it really is something you need to think about. Many, if not most, of us have things we want to do when we retire, but I've known several people for whom the job was "who they were" and they were lost without that job. One of my dad's best friends worked as a bookkeeper (didn't call'em accountants way back there) at the same job for over 65 years; right up until they took the keys to the place away from him (he was always the first to arrive so he had always unlocked the doors). He was lost without that job to go to and he just didn't have any other interests.

Gary, Congratulations. I bet you have all sorts of nostalgic memories filling your head about now. I almost know how you feel. A few more months and I will also be retiring with 31 years. Hope you will be able to do all the things you have been dreaming of doing. Are you still planning on getting a tractor, if so have you narrowed you search since your first post- see below?

<font color="blue">"Hi guys! I started checking out TBN about a week ago, and am I IMPRESSED . I'm starting my search for my toy, and I think I've seen every question I've ever had about tractors answered through these threads. You guys really know your stuff. And it's great the way everybody shares info. I hope I'll be able to contribute as time goes by.

I'll be looking for a 30 - 40 hp tractor. At this point in time, I haven't developed any prejudices one way or the other, but I'm open to suggestions! Within a 20 minute drive, I have a JD, NH, and Kubota dealer. I've visited all of them at least once, but since I really didn't know what to ask, I can't really say whether one is better than another. But like most of you have said, visiting and talking is half the fun. I'll keep reading and visiting TBN. I look forward to getting to know you all a whole lot better!"
