Good Morning. 1035, sunny, 52* with 75% humidity. Forecast high of 63* with no chance of rain. It was nice when I went out back to feed the dog. A few puffy white clouds to the south, and blue skies everywhere else.

Today is laundry day, but since I didn't buy any new shirts at the thrift stores yesterday, there should be no drama this time. But I will look at them before they go in the dryer, just to be sure.

Ok, I'll go back and read it again, but this is based on something in the last few days.
Do you feel the same way about Chrysler?

I've been a motorhead since my early teens and have followed cars pretty closely. Seems to me without the Ram p/u, Chrysler is left with selling rehashed minivans to make any money, and those Fiat engines in their Darts aren't exactly burning up the streets with Italian bravo... Ford makes great small and midsize cars, has very good hybrids, sells the most popular pickup, and just trails badly in larger sedans. GM however has neat new sedans coming, and I'd be happy to own an Australian made car if need be. GM interiors today are substantially upgraded and I think are ahead of other two. Except for their awful CUE interface that is slow and does not have a simple volume knob.

The 2015 Mustang GT convertible, in charcoal grey, with a saddle leather interior, stick of course, well now there's a Ford I'd sure own. 440hp sounds like a nice bump for the engine, but I haven't heard final numbers yet. Even at 420hp, you're talking a nicely adequate amount of power. And noise. Music actually...

Drew - Jim is right...you check and you will see the taxpayers lost $10 M when the govt. sold it's last lot of GM stock....I never have been a Ford person but I will either by Ford or Foreign from now on....I will always think of GM as Govt./Union Motors...not for me.

Ok, I'm still reading. It's amazing how different sources spin this thing.
These folk certainly think we got a remarkable deal for that money spent.

DETROIT – The U.S. government bailout of General Motors spared 1.2 million jobs in 2009 and preserved$39.4 billion in personal and social insurance tax collections in 2009 and 2010, according to a Center for Automotive Research study released Monday.

“Any complete cost-benefit assessment of the federal assistance to GM in its restructuring must consider the total net returns to the public investment…” researchers Sean McAlinden and Debra Maranger Menk wrote in “The Effect on the U.S. Economy of the Successful Restructuring of General Motors.”

The infusion of money into GM and Chrysler by the administrations of Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama avoided loss to the U.S. of $105.3 billion in transfer payments and personal and social insurance tax collections. Additionally, 2.6 million jobs were saved in 2009 alone and $284.4 billion in personal income was preserved over 2009-2010.

Chrysler? :confused3: Every good politician knows you try to change the topic when the heat gets too close to home. But yes, The Ram P/U is the only good thing I see coming out of Chrysler. They'll soon destroy the Jeep if not already there. Dodge products appeal to young males with more testosterone than good sense and their latest Ron Burgundy commercials are as much a joke as he is to a real news anchor. Give Ford Super Duty trucks a Cummins Diesel option and you'll watch Chiseler. . . er. . .Chrysler implode. In 1973, after my brand new Dodge Charger fell apart at 13k miles, I swore I would never own another Chrysler product. The only reason I bought my Dodge Ram 2500 is that it came wrapped around the Cummins engine. How I've yearned for that truck to be a Ford instead. Oh yes, the latest Silverado "quiet cab" commercial really cracks me up. You really want to merge onto the highway and not hear that 18 wheeler bearing down on you? Gimme a break! Why don't they just say that their pickups allow you talk on the cell phone or text without being interrupted by outside noise?

You know what my ideal fun car would be? How about a 1972 Datsun 240Z with a super-tuned 2.4 liter inline 6-cyl engine. I owned a 1973 240Z and have always regretted selling/trading it. That car was just fun to drive every time I got into it (and 24 mpg). It had nearly 200k miles on it when I took a hit on the left-rear from a drunk in a pickup who ran a red light. In a moment of weakness, I traded it in on a 1983 Datsun Maxima. The name didn't change to Nissan until '84-'85. I sure don't regret buying that car, just regret trading in my Z-car.

Oh boy! Politics in the Good Morning! thread. :laughing:

I would buy a GM vehicle if I thought it was the best choice for my needs at a competitive price.

We can choose which ever side of the bailout narrative we wish--and all be happy.

I don't know what a stock portfolio would be worth today if GM did fail, that wouldn't have happened in a vacuum given the state of the economy at the time.
I don't know what an oil well would be worth without the billions of public tax dollars spent to build and maintain roads either.

I prefer to call it accounting 101 instead of politics. . . . and to keep in the Good Morning theme, I'm seeing our ice melting since it is 37.5 F outside just now. Our paved county road is almost clear of ice, but the gravel part in another county is still loaded with ice. Our county road was paved this summer with county revenue from oil and gas wells. There's not a single well or service truck driving on this road, just some very happy folks no matter what their political affiliation.

Maybe you should try tilling the driveway while it's melty-soft. Don't think it would be a solution for mine with several inches of frozen gravel, but I bet your isn't frozen much below.
