thanks Farmer. problem is I'm too late, the driveway is down, so now all I can do is put chemicals on top of it, and on the sides. I've pretty much killed off all the grass popping up in the middle of the driveway, but now the sides after less than a year are pretty bad. The grass is like a living freeze/thaw cycle, definitely tears up the pavement.
my helper who was supposed to do this driveway weedeating is off until next week. Long story. Felony conviction for stealing stuff out of neighbor's unlocked cars when he was drunk with a bunch of buddies three years ago. As a stupid kid living with single mother. He seems totally changed now, polite and respectful with a one year old child. But the piper is about to be paid. 8 days in county jail, on weekends, and a lot of community service.
one of my best friends up in PA is doing the same mentoring with another young man the same age, different issues but still young people with problems. Sometimes they need help getting their rudders in the right position...
and for this young man it took a good dose of reality to do that. He looked a little scared a few days ago, and that's probably good for him. I told him to think of what has gone down as a bad car accident, and now he has a limp when he walks. That felony limp may go away over time, but is he going to let a limp stop him from being successful in life, and support his family properly? No, of course.
The only good thing he has is his family and I see a lot of love there so hopefully he will be successful.
Meanwhile I'm doing grunt work I wish he was doing.
My guiding faith principle in life is that every day is an opportunity for kindness.
Hopefully in five years I'll look back and see a young family that benefited from many days of that kindness.
And their young son will be picking apples from my trees.
No guarantees or warranties in life. Something my father taught me early on.
So you have to make things happen yourself.
sorry to prattle on.
